Jalandhar Geyser Gas Death has turned New Year and birthday celebrations into deep mourning for a local family. A 22-year-old woman died after inhaling toxic gas from a bathroom geyser in Jalandhar.

The victim, identified as Munmun, was the daughter of a Shiv Sena leader. The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve. Munmun was preparing for her birthday party and went to the bathroom to bathe and get ready. When she did not come out for nearly thirty minutes, family members grew worried.

They knocked on the door but received no response. The family then looked inside through a ventilator and found Munmun lying unconscious on the floor. They immediately broke open the door and rushed her to a nearby doctor. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

National leader Deepak Kamboj confirmed that Munmun lost consciousness due to geyser gas inside the closed bathroom. He said the family was busy with birthday arrangements when the tragedy struck without warning.

The sudden death left the household in shock. Celebrations turned into silence within moments. The incident has once again raised concerns about bathroom ventilation and geyser safety during winter.

Police have been informed, and the family has appealed to the public to remain cautious while using gas geysers in enclosed spaces.

Punjab School Holiday Extended till January 7 after the state government reviewed worsening winter conditions. The Punjab government announced the decision due to intense cold and dense fog across the state. All schools will now reopen on January 8, 2026.

Education Minister Harjot Bains shared the update through his official social media account. He said the decision prioritises the health and safety of students and staff. Continuous cold waves and low visibility prompted the government to act swiftly.

The holiday extension applies to all government, aided, recognised, and private schools in Punjab. Authorities advised parents to remain cautious as weather conditions may remain severe. Schools will resume normal academic activities once classes restart.

Earlier, the Punjab government had announced winter holidays from December 24 to December 31. The fresh order extends the break further, offering relief to students during extreme weather.

Neighbouring Haryana has also announced extended winter vacations. The Haryana School Education Directorate declared holidays from January 1 to January 15, 2026. Schools there will reopen on January 16.

Weather experts have warned that cold waves may continue in northern states. Dense fog has disrupted road and rail movement in many districts. Officials urged citizens to avoid early morning travel where possible.

The Punjab government said it will monitor conditions closely. Any further decision will depend on upcoming weather updates. Parents welcomed the move, calling it necessary and timely.

The Punjab government has convened a special session of the Vidhan Sabha today, Tuesday. The session will focus on the Centre’s decision to rename and amend the MGNREGA scheme. The Union government has renamed the scheme as VB-GRAM-G, drawing strong criticism from the state.

The House will move a resolution opposing the changes to the MGNREGA Act. The state government plans to demand withdrawal of the amendments. There will be no Question Hour or Zero Hour during the session. Proceedings will begin at 11 am under Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.

The session will open with tributes to the four Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, remembering their historic martyrdom. The House will also pay homage to former Punjab Governor Shivraj Chauhan, former minister Jagtar Singh Multani, former minister of state Tara Singh Ladle, and former MLA Tarlochan Singh Sandh.

Nine reports will be tabled during the sitting. The opposition is expected to corner the government on law and order and other issues, raising the chances of heated exchanges.

The debate will focus on concerns over reduced employment guarantees, higher financial burden on states, and weakening of panchayat powers. The government argues that the new framework threatens workers’ rights, especially for women, Scheduled Castes, and landless labourers.

Akal Takht Enforces Sikh Code by issuing strict new directives on religious practices. Acting Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj announced the decisions after a meeting of all five Sikh Sahibans at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar.

The Sikh clergy unanimously ruled that Anand Karaj ceremonies will be held only inside gurdwaras. The Jathedar said ceremonies in hotels, parks, or commercial venues violate Sikh maryada. He stressed that no exceptions will be allowed in the future.

The Akal Takht also banned taking the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to any wedding venue. Jathedar Gargaj said this practice weakens religious discipline and disrespects Sikh traditions.

In another key decision, the Sikh supreme body imposed a complete ban on AI-generated films or videos depicting Sikh Gurus. The Jathedar said artificial portrayals harm religious values and confuse future generations. He added that technology must not override faith and tradition.

The Akal Takht warned of strict action against ragis or jathas who ignore these orders. Authorities will act firmly against any violation.

Jathedar Gargaj reaffirmed that Sri Akal Takht Sahib remains committed to protecting Sikh maryada. He said the institution will continue to take strong decisions to safeguard Sikh beliefs and practices.

Sikh Woman Donates Land to build a mosque in a Punjab village, setting a strong example of communal harmony. The heartwarming incident took place in Jakhawali village of Fatehgarh Sahib district.

The village has a Sikh-majority population with a few Hindu families. Only a handful of Muslim families live there. Due to the absence of a mosque, Muslim residents had to travel to nearby villages to offer prayers.

Understanding their difficulty, 75-year-old Sikh woman Bibi Rajinder Kaur decided to help. She donated five marla, around 1,360 square feet, of her personal land for constructing a mosque. Her gesture received widespread appreciation across the village.

Hindu families stepped forward to provide financial support for the mosque construction. Sikh families also extended help in various ways. Together, villagers ensured that the project moved forward smoothly.

Speaking about her decision, Bibi Rajinder Kaur said she felt happy knowing Muslims would finally have a place to pray nearby. She added that helping others brings true satisfaction, regardless of religion.

Jakhawali village lies about 55 kilometres from Chandigarh. It already has a gurdwara and a Shiva temple. With the new mosque, the village now reflects unity among all faiths.

At a time of rising religious tensions, this act stands as a powerful reminder that humanity still thrives at the grassroots level.

Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna has received formal approval from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and will start in January. The scheme will ensure cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh for every family in Punjab.

Chairing a health department meeting, the Chief Minister called the scheme a major step toward universal healthcare. He said the initiative will offer quality treatment without any out-of-pocket expense. Punjab will become the first state to guarantee ₹10 lakh cashless care for all families.

The scheme aims to provide financial security and easy access to healthcare services. Every enrolled family will receive annual coverage of ₹10 lakh. The benefit will apply across government and empanelled private hospitals in Punjab and Chandigarh.

The coverage includes hospitalisation costs, surgeries, ICU and critical care, diagnostics, medicines, and approved medical packages. Pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses will also fall under the scheme. The government will ensure cashless and paperless services at listed hospitals.

The Chief Minister said the earlier treatment cap stood at ₹5 lakh. The government has now doubled the limit to ₹10 lakh. All residents, including government employees and pensioners, will qualify. The scheme has no income criteria.

Officials are finalising systems to ensure smooth rollout and timely grievance redressal through digital platforms.

CBI Charges Punjab Cops in the Colonel Pushpinder Bath assault case, marking a key development in the probe. The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge sheet against four Punjab Police personnel in a Mohali court.

The prosecution has accused the officials of causing grievous hurt and wrongful restraint. According to the charge sheet, Inspector Rony Singh is named as the prime accused. The agency did not include charges related to attempted murder in its filing.

Earlier, Patiala Police had registered an FIR against inspectors Harry Boparai, Rony Singh, and Harjinder Dhillon. The FIR cited sections related to attempted murder, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Later, another inspector was added under additional legal provisions.

The alleged incident took place on the night between March 13 and 14. Colonel Bath and his son were standing near a roadside eatery close to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. The family claimed that police officers in civil clothes asked the Colonel to move his car.

The situation allegedly escalated soon after. More than a dozen police personnel reportedly assaulted the Colonel and his son with rods and sticks. Both sustained injuries during the attack.

The case has drawn wide attention and raised serious questions about police conduct. Further legal proceedings are awaited.

Before her death, the widow recorded a video message. In the video, she accused ten people of harassing her over financial disputes. She named those she held responsible and explained the pressure she faced after her husband’s death.

Her husband had passed away some time ago, leaving her to manage family responsibilities alone. The video surfaced after the incident and became a key piece of evidence for investigators. Police reviewed the recording and began legal action.
