]]> The Maharashtra Gujarat Rail Projects received Cabinet approval under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These initiatives will enhance rail connectivity and improve passenger and freight movement across four districts in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The total investment for both projects is Rs 2,781 crore.

One project involves the doubling of the Dwarka-Kanalus railway line in Gujarat, improving connectivity to the Dwarkadhish Temple in Devbhoomi Dwarka. The upgrade will also support transportation of coal, cement, and salt, adding an additional 18 million tonnes per annum in freight capacity.

The second project focuses on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, constructing third and fourth lines between Badlapur and Karjat. This expansion will strengthen suburban connectivity and enhance links from South India to Mumbai. It will help meet future passenger demand and reduce congestion on busy corridors.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that these projects complement India’s first bullet train initiative connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad, with trial runs expected in 2026. The Cabinet’s approval reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure, boosting regional mobility, and supporting economic growth through improved logistics and travel efficiency.

]]> Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the new Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) on Saturday. The centre will help passengers manage crowding during the festival season. It can hold up to 7,000 travellers, improving pre-boarding comfort and flow.

The facility is divided into three zones: a 2,860 sqm ticketing area, a 1,150 sqm post-ticketing zone, and a 1,218 sqm pre-ticketing section. This design reduces congestion and ensures smooth passenger movement at the station’s main entrance.

Northern Railway equipped the Kendra with 22 ticket counters, 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), seating for 200, and 18 HVLS fans for cooling. Workers relocated ATMs, a Delhi Police cabin, and utility lines carefully without affecting daily operations.

The Foot Over Bridge 1 (FOB 1) was extended for direct Metro access, improving connectivity and reducing platform crowding. Vaishnaw announced a Productivity Linked Bonus of Rs 1,866 crore for over 10.90 lakh railway employees, rewarding their dedication. The Kendra and bonus reflect the ministry’s focus on passenger convenience and staff recognition.
