Seat-sharing talks between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Indian National Congress have reached a crucial stage ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The DMK has asked Congress to confirm the number of seats it wants to contest before Tuesday. Party leaders aim to close negotiations quickly and focus on campaign plans.

In the 2021 Assembly polls, Congress contested 25 seats under the DMK-led alliance. Reports suggest the DMK has offered the same number again. The ruling party has also indicated support for one Rajya Sabha seat as part of the arrangement. However, Congress is seeking at least 35 Assembly constituencies this time.

Congress leaders argue that their organisational strength justifies a larger share. The demand has created a deadlock in recent days. DMK leaders believe increasing the quota may upset other alliance partners. Several new parties have joined the front and seek representation.

Uncertainty now surrounds the future of the alliance. Congress may review its position if talks fail, though no official statement has been issued. Political observers are closely watching whether both sides reach a compromise before the deadline.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka on Wednesday attacked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over rising government borrowings. He labelled Siddaramaiah the “Biggest Borrowing CM” while criticising the Congress-led administration. Ashoka said long years in office mattered less than the financial legacy left behind.

Highlighting fiscal concerns, Ashoka pointed to plans to borrow ₹93,000 crore during the January–March quarter. He said such borrowing reflected panic-driven financial management. According to him, the state faced a deep fiscal imbalance caused by weak planning.

Ashoka alleged that fresh loans were taken to repay older debts. He also claimed funds were being used to sustain guarantee schemes. He described the schemes as financially unsustainable. Ashoka said cash flow problems had emerged due to policy failures.

The opposition leader warned that history would judge Siddaramaiah on economic outcomes, not tenure. He said Karnataka was being burdened with massive debt. Ashoka claimed inefficiency had become visible across governance. He added that future generations would bear the consequences of current decisions. The Congress government has not responded to the allegations so far.

BJP Karnataka State President B.Y. Vijayendra on Wednesday accused the Congress-led government of allowing an assault on a BJP woman worker in Hubballi. He alleged that the woman was assaulted and disrobed during her arrest. Vijayendra strongly condemned the incident while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru.

He demanded immediate action against the police personnel involved. Vijayendra urged Home Minister G. Parameshwara to suspend the officers responsible. He said such incidents damage public trust in law enforcement. The BJP, he added, would not remain silent on attacks against its workers.

In a post on social media platform X, Vijayendra described the incident as disgraceful and shameful. He said the episode amounted to an attack on a woman’s dignity. According to him, the incident reflected a serious failure of governance and law enforcement in Karnataka.

The BJP leader further alleged that the state was moving towards vendetta-driven governance. He claimed that the rule of law had collapsed under the present regime. Vijayendra also accused the police of shielding a Congress corporator. He said an FIR should have been registered against the corporator instead of BJP workers. The government has not issued an official response yet.

Party leaders see the move as a strategy to renegotiate space within the DMK-led alliance. Sources say Congress wants to project relevance before seat talks conclude.

According to insiders, Congress initially targeted 40 Assembly seats as an ideal goal. The DMK has reportedly offered 32 seats. Congress leaders later revised their demand to 38 seats. Negotiations continue as both sides assess electoral strength and alliance balance.

The Tamil Nadu Congress unit has also explored a possible understanding with actor Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Sources say leaders have briefed Rahul Gandhi on this option. The move gained attention after TVK called Congress a natural ally.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore said the party seeks a share in governance, not just seats. He said workers expect representation if the alliance wins. TVK leaders said Vijay will decide alliance moves after consultations. They noted that two months remain before elections.

Political tensions in Telangana have escalated as a sharp war of words continues between Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha and senior BRS leaders. Kavitha’s recent allegations have triggered strong counterattacks from the BRS camp. As a result, several former ministers and MLAs have openly criticised her statements. The controversy has now taken a more aggressive turn.

Meanwhile, BRS MLC Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao made harsh remarks during a television debate. He accused Kavitha of crossing limits and attacking public representatives, families, and the party. Furthermore, he said there was no need to show restraint anymore. He warned that Kavitha would face public retaliation if she continued such statements.

In addition, Ravinder Rao alleged that Kavitha insulted women through her language. He questioned how long restraint should be maintained against such behaviour. Responding to Kavitha’s “test match” comment, he dismissed it outright. He also said that giving her importance would damage the party’s image.

Moreover, Ravinder Rao questioned why Kavitha avoided discussing Congress government promises and public issues. He expressed anger over her comments against the BRS leadership. Finally, he stated that personal attacks on elected representatives harm democratic values and lower political standards.

Local body elections in Telangana have turned intense after the first phase of Sarpanch results. Although the ruling Congress secured the highest number of seats, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi also won a significant share. Therefore, leaders from both parties have gone on alert. Congress leaders have now focused sharply on the second and third phases of polling scheduled for later this month.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders have begun holding discussions with local representatives in polling areas. They believe stronger coordination can help the party win more seats. With only one day left for the second phase, leaders have urged cadres to work harder at the ground level. At the same time, party leadership has stressed discipline and unity to avoid internal damage.

On the other hand, BRS leaders have also reviewed their performance closely. They feel better mobilization could have improved results in the first phase. As a result, the party has intensified efforts in upcoming phases. Both parties now aim to maximize their seat count and strengthen village-level influence.

Interestingly, several MLAs failed to secure wins in their own villages despite winning large constituencies earlier. This trend has triggered political debate across the state. Analysts say local dynamics differ from state politics. In total, Congress won 2,864 villages, BRS secured 1,143, BJP won 185, and others took 43 seats.

The Andhra Pradesh government has urged the Union Jal Shakti Ministry to halt new irrigation projects being taken up by Telangana on the Krishna River. Telangana issued a GO on September 16 to prepare DPRs for 16 new projects in Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Warangal and Khammam districts. AP officials say the Centre has not cleared these works. They also stated that Telangana initiated 42 new projects after the state bifurcation.

AP’s Water Resources Department wrote that projects need approval from the CWC, Apex Council and KRMB. The department asked the Centre to stop any new construction until all permissions are completed. Officials claim that these new works may affect AP’s share of Krishna water. They therefore requested the Centre not to grant any approvals for now.

Sources say AP informed the Centre that its interests may face harm if Telangana moves ahead. They also stated that AP expects the Centre to issue clear instructions soon. An official statement from AP is yet to be released.

If the letter is officially confirmed, political circles are keen to see how Telangana will respond. Observers expect the issue to become a major inter-state matter.

Former minister Kodali Nani attended the one-crore signature campaign in Gudivada against the privatization of medical colleges. During the event, he made important comments about his political break. He said he had stayed away from political activities for the past six months. He explained that he underwent bypass surgery and doctors advised complete rest.

Kodali Nani added that he could not participate in public programs due to his recovery. He said he would attend similar people’s movements for the next six months. After that period, he promised to return to active public life and take up issues as before.

He also stated that he would continue to fight for people’s concerns. He said several irregularities in the state would be exposed. Nani declared that all efforts would be made by him to face challenges and work to bring Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy back as Chief Minister.

Kodali Nani is known as a firebrand leader of the YSRCP. However, his health issues kept him away from aggressive politics after the coalition government came to power. His supporters feel that the old intensity was missing, though he appears occasionally in public events.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao marked December 9 as a historic day that set Telangana’s statehood process in motion. He posted old photos of K. Chandrashekar Rao ending his fast, and said the final phase of the Telangana movement reached a turning point on this day. KTR noted that 16 years have passed since the Union government announced the start of the state formation process.

He said the combined struggle of all communities, the sacrifices of martyrs, and KCR’s indefinite fast pushed the Centre to respond. According to him, the movement’s intensity forced Delhi to recognise the demand for a separate state. KTR added that the people’s determination created an unstoppable wave for Telangana’s identity.

KTR also stressed that November 29, observed as Deeksha Day, played a key role in shaping the final outcome. He said the fast taken up by KCR on that day strengthened the movement and united lakhs of supporters across the state. The emotional force behind the protest made the demand reach national attention.

He further said December 9 would not exist without November 29, and June 2 would not exist without December 9. He called the sequence a reminder of Telangana’s long struggle and people’s resilience.
