In Patiala, Nabha and Bhadson are the most affected areas, recording 146 and 77 cases, respectively. Dr Sumeet Singh, District Epidemiologist, said over 100 cases in Nabha were detected through door-to-door health surveys. He added that the city’s four ELISA testing labs and 71 Aam Aadmi Clinics are actively testing samples. Health teams destroyed mosquito larvae at 9,541 sites, nearly 1.5 times more than last year’s number.

Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Jagpalinder Singh assured that enough beds and facilities are available. The situation, he said, has now stabilised.

Meanwhile, Amritsar reported only 33 cases, though sources claim ELISA confirmations are pending.

The Punjab government has started strict action against the forcible sale of fertiliser supplements in Ropar. Officials have ordered checks on distributors who force farmers to buy costly supplements with fertilisers.

Police registered an FIR against a distributor from the IPL company. He forced retailers to purchase unwanted booster products. This is the first such case in the state. Farmers said they were being cheated for years. They had to buy expensive supplements along with DAP and urea bags.

A DAP bag costs ₹1,350, but sellers add calcium nitrate or polyhalite, pushing the price higher. A urea bag priced at ₹256 is sold only if farmers buy sulphur or nano urea. These extra items double farmers’ expenses.

Experts said the forcible sale of fertiliser supplements in Ropar began due to high global prices. Companies want to protect their profit margins by forcing extra sales. The Ropar administration’s move aims to stop this exploitation and help farmers get fertilisers at fair prices.
