Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has created history by becoming the state’s longest-serving chief minister. He crossed the record held by late Devaraj Urs after completing 2,792 days in office. The milestone was achieved during his second term on January 6.

Devaraj Urs served as chief minister for a total of 2,792 days across two terms between 1972 and 1980. Siddaramaiah matched the record earlier this week and then moved ahead. He earlier completed a full five-year term from 2013 to 2018, a rare achievement in the state’s politics.

Since returning to power in May 2023, Siddaramaiah has completed 963 days in his second term so far. At 77, he remains one of the most experienced leaders in Karnataka. He stated that he never entered politics to break records and expressed confidence in completing his term.

The achievement comes amid talk of a power-sharing arrangement with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. Shivakumar congratulated Siddaramaiah and wished him well. Supporters celebrated across Karnataka by hosting community feasts, many serving the chief minister’s favourite nati koli.

Political leaders and their followers in Rajendranagar have slipped into deep frustration. The government recently merged 27 surrounding municipalities into the GHMC. Until now, the constituency had Rajendranagar Circle along with the Shamshabad, Narsingi, and Manikonda municipalities, plus Bandlaguda Municipal Corporation. These bodies had nearly 85 councillors and corporators. Local leaders stayed active in public spaces and promoted development works. That situation is expected to change completely.

The merged areas are likely to get around eight new corporator divisions. Only a limited number of candidates may contest from each major party. With almost 13 divisions expected in the Rajendranagar region, only 60 to 70 contestants may enter the race. Earlier, nearly 300 aspirants contested in separate municipal bodies. Leaders are upset as their political space is shrinking. Many are confused about future GHMC elections because clarity on reservations has not arrived.

Even ruling party leaders are displeased with the merger. They fear that public dissatisfaction may rise due to increased taxes and fewer local services. Opposition leaders argue that development will slow down. They believe local governance will move further away from citizens.

Officials also expressed concern after losing key administrative powers. Municipal commissioners earlier held strong authority. Now, deputy commissioners may face reduced control. The merger has created distress across political and administrative circles.

Sympathy is usually shown to families after someone dies. Public emotions also turn soft and supportive. Even strong rivals avoid harsh words. But Telangana voters are showing a different trend. Sympathy is not converting into votes when sitting MLAs pass away. Since the formation of Telangana in 2014, six sitting MLAs died while in office. Their family members entered the bypoll race with emotional appeal but faced mixed results.

In Narayankhed, MLA P. Krishna Reddy died and his son Sanjeev Reddy failed. In Palair, after the death of Venkata Reddy, his wife Sucharitha Reddy got a Congress ticket but lost to the BRS candidate. In Cantonment, Sayanne’s family received a ticket later, but his daughter passed away soon. Her sister Nivedita got a chance but lost to the Congress candidate. In Jubilee Hills, Gopinath’s wife Sunitha contested but Congress candidate Naveen Yadav won with a strong majority.

Only in Nagarjuna Sagar, sympathy turned positive. Nomula Narsimhaiah’s son Bhagath won due to support and development promises. In Dubbaka, sympathy also failed and BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao secured the victory. Analysts say that Telangana voters are choosing development and ruling power over emotional votes.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister *Anitha* has criticized YSRCP chief *Jagan Mohan Reddy, stating that it is not Chandrababu Naidu who grants opposition status but the **people of the state*.

Speaking during her visit to *Ongole*, Anitha suggested that if Jagan himself does not want to attend Assembly sessions, he should at least send his MLAs. She condemned his attitude of demanding opposition status like “a child throwing tantrums.”

The minister stressed that skipping Assembly sessions would only harm public interests. “The Assembly is a platform to raise people’s problems. If Jagan truly has commitment, he should participate in discussions on public issues,” she remarked.

Anitha’s comments highlight the growing political tussle in Andhra Pradesh, with the ruling party urging the opposition to take responsibility in addressing people’s concerns within the legislative process.

Prashant Kishor questions Bihar Dy CM’s educational qualifications, raising eyebrows in political circles ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The political strategist also called the Deputy Chief Minister a “murder accused,” intensifying the political heat in the state. Prashant Kishor questions Bihar Dy CM’s educational qualifications and his credibility, highlighting ongoing controversies surrounding his public office.

Kishor’s remarks came during a press briefing where he addressed multiple issues concerning the ruling party’s governance and transparency. He argued that voters have the right to know the qualifications of those holding high office. Additionally, Kishor accused the Dy CM of having serious criminal allegations against him, which, according to him, raises questions about accountability and leadership in Bihar.

The comments have triggered a strong response from the ruling party, which called Kishor’s statements “baseless and politically motivated.” Meanwhile, opposition leaders have echoed Kishor’s concerns, citing the importance of transparency and integrity in public office.

Political analysts suggest that such statements by Kishor could influence voter sentiment ahead of the elections. Prashant Kishor questions Bihar Dy CM’s educational qualifications, underlining the growing scrutiny of public officials in the state. With tensions rising, the political debate in Bihar is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
