Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police carried out a major Mizoram drug seizure on Thursday during a joint anti-narcotics operation in Saitual. Acting on specific intelligence about drug movement along the Champhai–Saitual Road, the teams stopped a suspected vehicle at a check post and seized 5.421 kg of methamphetamine tablets. The consignment is valued at ₹27 crore (₹16.26 crore local estimate).

Officials identified the arrested individual as Thangtinsei, a resident of Moreh in Manipur. The recovered drugs and the accused were handed over to Saitual Police for further investigation and legal procedures.

Another Major Mizoram Drug Seizure Last Week

Earlier, on November 26, Assam Rifles made another significant Mizoram drug seizure near the Indo-Myanmar border in Champhai district. Based on inputs about narcotics movement along World Bank Road in Zokhawthar, the force launched a surveillance operation and detected suspicious activity.

During the search, security personnel recovered 4.444 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹13.33 crore. The team apprehended Bawi Kanthanga, a Myanmar national. Officials believe that the seized consignment was part of a larger cross-border trafficking network operating through the porous border.

The seized drugs were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai, for detailed examination and legal action.

Zokhawthar: A Key Trafficking Corridor

Zokhawthar, close to the India-Myanmar border, continues to witness frequent narcotics-related incidents. Due to repeated trafficking attempts, security forces routinely conduct joint and independent operations in the region. Drugs such as methamphetamine, heroin, and other synthetic substances often originate from cross-border production hubs.

Authorities say they will continue to intensify operations to curb the rising drug flow into Mizoram.
