The Punjab Government has made its priorities clear, placing growth on mind and moving to approve new industrial units in just five days. With growth on mind, the government aims to attract major investments and accelerate economic expansion across the state. The new system promises a smoother, faster, and more transparent process for entrepreneurs.

Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora said the government will now clear all approvals for green-category industrial units inside a focal point or industrial park within only five days. If the unit is located outside these zones, Invest Punjab will grant deemed clearance within 15 days. Brownfield expansions will take 18 days.

Arora added that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unveiled the amended Right to Business Act before industrialists, ensuring an investor-friendly ecosystem. He stressed that any delay in construction or operational permissions will lead to disciplinary action against responsible officials. After the stipulated timeline, the project will receive deemed approval. However, investors must secure all remaining approvals within three years of starting operations.

The government has also introduced a single digital gateway to simplify entry and exit procedures for entrepreneurs. Along with this, Punjab will offer new fiscal and non-fiscal incentives and bring labour reforms to strengthen its industrial climate.

Industrialist Vows Rs 2K-Cr Investment in Punjab Expansion, bringing a fresh wave of confidence to the state’s industry. Industrialist Vows Rs 2K-Cr Investment in Punjab Expansion after Rajya Sabha MP and Trident Group Chairman Rajinder Gupta announced a major brownfield project at his Barnala unit.

Gupta clarified that he never planned to shift his investments out of Punjab. He said he expanded to Madhya Pradesh because its policy looked attractive at that time, but his emotional and professional bond with Punjab remains strong. He added that he joined politics only to serve the state and its people.

Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora welcomed the announcement and said the project reflects strong investor trust in Punjab. He explained that since 2022, the state has received Common Application Forms worth Rs 1.40 lakh crore, which represent real investments backed by land acquisition. Arora added that sectors like steel have chosen Punjab due to cheap and reliable power.

The Trident Group, with a market cap of Rs 18,000 crore, will invest Rs 1,500 crore to modernise its terry towel and paper unit in Barnala and another Rs 500 crore to set up a capacity-building centre in Mohali. The expansion will create jobs for 2,000 people and begin within 15 months.

Gupta said the group also invested Rs 1,000 crore in Bathinda units over the past decade and now sees a positive environment for industry growth in Punjab.

Halwara international airport was a major political talking point before the Ludhiana byelection, with leaders racing to claim credit for meeting a long-pending demand of the business community. But after the elections, the project has slowed, leaving industrialists disappointed.

Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu recently tweeted that he had reviewed the progress with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Civil Aviation Ministry. He blamed local issues, saying the Public Works Department (PWD) had not completed drainage works but promised they would finish within a week. He also said once the airport is handed over, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security will give final clearances. Punjab has already provided 58 security personnel for training. Bittu assured that the Halwara international airport inauguration will happen soon.

Media reports suggested a Delhi meeting on September 26 between AAI, district administration, and state officials. But local authorities denied receiving any such intimation. Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora stated that the state had done its part and pending work would be expedited.

Still, industrialists remain frustrated. They argue that despite promises, there is no clear timeline for when flights from Halwara international airport will finally start.

He said India is a democratic and secular country where all citizens enjoy equal rights. Punjabis, too, work in other states, so it is important to maintain peace and harmony at home.

Arora was reacting to reports of some village panchayats in Hoshiarpur, Ropar, Nawanshahr, Mohali, Bathinda, and Malerkotla passing resolutions against undocumented migrants. He made it clear that law and order will take its course against any accused, but one crime should not be used to target an entire community.

The minister also assured industrialists that there will be no labour shortage in Punjab.

Meanwhile, farm unions and workers’ groups have extended support for migrant labourers, calling them vital to Punjab’s economy. The Kirti Kisan Union urged people to resist hate campaigns. The Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union and other organisations condemned a crime by an individual worker in Hoshiarpur but warned against blaming all migrants.

Over 500 intellectuals, writers, and artists have appealed to Punjabis to reject violence and stand united with migrant workers.
