SBI said higher global crude oil prices may increase import costs and push inflation higher in the coming months.

According to the SBI annual report, the situation may also weaken the rupee and affect transport, industries, and foreign investments. The bank said global uncertainty continues to create challenges for developing economies like India.

SBI Chairman C.S. Setty said India still remains in a better position than many other countries because of strong domestic demand and government investments. He added that the Reserve Bank of India is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to maintain economic stability.

However, SBI also warned that if geopolitical tensions continue for a longer period, India’s economic growth rate during the current financial year could face some impact.

The CBSE Payment Gateway Overhaul will focus on making online payments safer and smoother for students applying for re-evaluation, photocopies of answer sheets, and other services. Officials from State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, and Indian Bank joined the discussions.

Pradhan asked the banks to create a reliable payment system with faster refunds and better monitoring. The banks also promised to support CBSE with technical upgrades and stronger payment security.

The move aims to reduce expenses in public sector financial institutions and encourage sustainable practices.

Officials said Govt directs state-run banks and insurers to cut costs by limiting unnecessary spending and improving operational efficiency. Major institutions such as State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Life Insurance Corporation of India will follow the new guidelines issued by the Finance Ministry.

Under the directive, most meetings should take place through video conferencing. Physical meetings should be held only when absolutely necessary. Senior officials must also reduce foreign travel and attend international meetings online whenever possible.

The government has also asked institutions to adopt eco-friendly transport. Offices and branches will gradually replace petrol and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles to reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions.

These measures aim to control expenses while promoting environmentally responsible operations across public sector financial institutions.

India’s top banking giants—State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank—continue to dominate long-term investment conversations as credit growth stabilises and market conditions shift. Among the three, SBI has emerged as the strongest performer, delivering a stellar 18.94% gain in one year, supported by consistent momentum across six-month, three-month, and one-month periods. Its strong rally and robust technical structure make it the current market favourite.

HDFC Bank, despite being India’s premier private lender, has shown stable but moderate returns, remaining range-bound due to consolidation post-merger. The bank maintains strong fundamentals, a sticky deposit base, and long-term growth potential.

ICICI Bank, known for its superior profitability and balanced retail/SME growth, has displayed short-term weakness. However, its long-term fundamentals remain strong.

Brokerage house Jefferies retains Buy ratings on all three banks, projecting the highest upside for ICICI Bank (₹1,760), followed by HDFC Bank (₹1,200). SBI’s upside is seen as stable rather than aggressive. Motilal Oswal also favours all three due to their resilience, strong capital buffers, and healthy asset quality.

Experts conclude: ICICI suits growth investors, HDFC offers premium stability, and SBI provides the strongest momentum and best value for long-term investors.

Indian stock markets ended lower on Tuesday after a weak second-half session dragged indices down. Renewed selling in IT and metal stocks erased early gains, reflecting cautious investor sentiment. The Sensex slipped 519 points, or 0.62%, closing at 83,459, while the Nifty fell 165 points, or 0.64%, to 25,597.

Analysts said momentum indicators turned negative, suggesting short-term weakness may continue. The Nifty slipped below the key 25,600 level, and support is seen around 25,500. A strong move above 25,800 could signal recovery, but traders remain wary ahead of the holiday-shortened week.

Among Sensex constituents, Power Grid, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Maruti Suzuki led the declines. Titan, Bharti Airtel, and SBI managed to post modest gains. Broader indices also followed the downward trend, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and SmallCap 100 falling 0.42% and 0.82%, respectively.

Sectorally, metal, auto, and IT indices were the worst performers, while Nifty Consumer Durables was the only one in the green. Experts attributed the decline to weak global cues and profit-booking in heavyweight stocks, which weighed on overall market sentiment.

Until now, people waited in long queues at Aadhaar centers to update their names, addresses, or mobile numbers.

To simplify the process, the government has launched a new system that lets users update Aadhaar details from home using a mobile phone. Starting November 1, citizens can use this service by paying a ₹75 fee. The goal is to make Aadhaar services more convenient and user-friendly.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also changed its banking rules. Customers can now add up to four nominees for bank accounts, lockers, and safe custody services. Earlier, only one nominee was allowed.

In addition, the State Bank of India (SBI) will charge a 1% fee on education payments and wallet recharges above ₹1,000 made through third-party apps. These updates aim to make digital transactions smoother and more secure.

Trade uncertainties affected investor sentiment, the report said. HDFC Bank fell 4.8 per cent, while ICICI Bank declined 6.7 per cent.

Other private lenders like Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank also recorded market cap losses. IndusInd Bank was the worst performer, losing 15.7 per cent and falling to the 14th position after reporting accounting lapses.

Public sector banks gained in the same period. SBI’s market cap rose 10 per cent. Canara Bank and Indian Bank gained 8.3 per cent and 16.7 per cent, respectively. Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank also reported moderate gains.

The government expects the economy to benefit from lower GST rates, festive demand, and normal rainfall. RBI raised GDP growth for FY26 to 6.8 per cent. Economists anticipate further rate cuts after two reductions in early 2025, supporting the banking sector.

SBI Chairman CS Setty said India needs a strong financial system to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047. He highlighted the need to deepen capital markets, foster innovation, and develop skilled financial talent. Setty added that SBI will actively support India’s financial growth alongside capital market participants.

Setty praised SBI’s fast responses and high-quality services, which capital market leaders widely appreciated. He said the bank will not only provide banking solutions but also help shape India’s financial future.

SBI reported a 12.5% rise in net profit to Rs 19,160 crore for Q1 FY26, compared to Rs 17,035 crore last year. Operating profit grew 15.5% to Rs 30,544 crore. Investor confidence improved as BSE-listed companies reached a combined value of Rs 465 lakh crore, near last year’s peak.

The Reserve Bank of India’s potential easing and softening inflation supported market optimism. Strong performances from PSU, auto, bank, metal, and oil & gas sectors further boosted markets. Experts predict corporate earnings may grow above 15% in FY27 due to GST reforms, improving foreign investor sentiment.
