The SEBI-Sahara case entered a crucial phase as the Supreme Court agreed to hear the pleas of Sahara Group employees who seek payment of their long-pending salaries. The Court scheduled these pleas for November 17, the same day Sahara India Commercial Corporation Ltd. (SICCL) will present its request to sell 88 prime properties to Adani Properties Private Limited. The employees’ plea gained attention because many workers say they have not received salaries for months.

A Bench led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai took up the matter and confirmed that these salary-related pleas will be heard along with the main SEBI-Sahara case. Lawyers representing the employees urged the Bench to address their concerns urgently. The CJI responded positively and ensured a joint hearing.

The Court previously sought responses from the Centre, SEBI, and other stakeholders to SICCL’s request for permission to proceed with the property sale. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the Union Ministries of Finance and Cooperation should be part of the proceedings. The Court accepted this and directed both ministries to file their replies before November 17.

Senior advocate and amicus curiae Shekhar Naphade received instructions to compile complete details of the 88 properties proposed for sale. The Bench also asked him to study each property’s status, including whether they are encumbered or disputed. The Court noted that it will later decide whether the sale should happen in parts or as a single block.

The Bench also asked the Sahara Group to verify salary claims made by employees. It instructed the amicus to examine the issue of arrears and present findings on the next hearing date. All related applications, including intervention pleas, will come up for final consideration on November 17.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has warned investors about the growing risks of “digital gold” or e-gold products sold online. These products operate outside the securities regulatory framework and expose buyers to counterparty and operational risks.

SEBI explained that digital gold is often marketed as an alternative to physical gold. However, it is not classified as a security or regulated as a commodity derivative. Since SEBI’s investor protection rules do not cover such investments, buyers face higher risks.

Many online platforms and jewellers promote digital gold with entry points as low as ₹10 or ₹100. They highlight features such as anytime buy/sell and easy conversion to jewellery. These claims may mislead small investors into believing the products are safe.

SEBI urged investors to choose regulated gold investment options. These include exchange-traded funds (ETFs), commodity derivatives, and electronic gold receipts. Such instruments are offered through SEBI-registered intermediaries and ensure investor protection.

According to the World Gold Council, India’s gold ETFs attracted record inflows of $850 million in October — the highest yearly total ever.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is finalizing talks with UIDAI and the RBI to enable remote KYC for NRIs. This system, now in testing, will allow non-resident Indians to complete KYC without visiting India. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said the initiative aims to simplify access and enhance investor convenience.

Pandey called it a major development for the financial ecosystem. Speaking at a BSE Brokers Forum event, he said SEBI is shifting from “reactive supervision to predictive oversight.” The regulator’s upgraded data warehouse now generates alerts to detect pump-and-dump trades and fraudulent bulk deals in real time.

He noted that pump-and-dump schemes show recognizable patterns. The new surveillance technology will help track manipulative trading with data insights. SEBI is also working on a safety net for depository participants to manage outages efficiently, similar to systems for stockbrokers.

Pandey added that SEBI is simplifying FPI registration and enhancing investor protection through technology-driven platforms like the Unified Investor App and the upgraded SCORES grievance system, which improves transparency and complaint resolution.

The Supreme Court asks response on portal for unclaimed assets, highlighting the need for transparency. On October 6, 2025, a Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued notices to the Union Government and key financial regulators.

The petition urged the creation of a centralised digital platform. This system would allow citizens to trace and recover inactive or unclaimed financial assets. Furthermore, it would combine data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

The court directed the Union of India, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, National Savings Institute, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) to respond.

This portal could make it easier for citizens to check their operational and inactive holdings in one place. Moreover, it could speed up asset recovery and reduce disputes. Experts say it would also improve efficiency in banking and insurance.

Therefore, the Supreme Court’s move reflects growing demands for digital solutions in governance. Citizens and experts now await government responses to this significant proposal.

The indices had touched a two-month high, supported by the resumption of India-US trade talks and the US Federal Reserve’s rate cut.The Sensex and Nifty closed the week with gains of 0.89 percent and 0.85 percent, respectively. IT and FMCG stocks faced selling pressure, but mid-cap and small-cap indices ended slightly higher.

PSU banks extended their rally, with the Nifty PSU Bank Index climbing more than 1 percent. Adani Group shares also surged after SEBI dismissed allegations by Hindenburg Research.
