Speaking in Gobichettipalayam, the nine-time legislator said that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami holds the authority to decide who should return. However, he stressed that leaders who had once held major responsibilities must be reinstated. Sengottaiyan warned that if the leadership does not act in time, like-minded leaders will unite independently to restore the party’s unity.

To reinforce his point, Sengottaiyan recalled the party’s history. Both M.G. Ramachandran, AIADMK’s founder, and his successor Jayalalithaa, welcomed back rebel leaders like S.D. Somasundaram and Kalimuthu, despite earlier criticism. He said this was done to protect the party’s unity and ensure its electoral success.

With Assembly elections less than a year away, Sengottaiyan’s demand for urgent AIADMK unity talks highlights growing pressure on the leadership. Political observers believe that internal unity could decide whether the AIADMK can reclaim its past glory and remain a strong contender against the ruling DMK.
