Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has sparked fresh controversy with his latest provocative remarks, claiming that Islamabad is “fully prepared” for a two-front war against both India and Afghanistan. Speaking at a public gathering, Asif said, “We are ready for war on two fronts — against India on the east and Afghanistan on the west. Allah helped us in round one and will help us in round two.”

The minister’s statement comes in the wake of a suicide bombing in Islamabad that killed 12 people and injured over 30. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. Following the incident, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused “India-backed groups” of aiding terrorism in the country, while Asif blamed the Afghan Taliban, calling the bombing “a message from Kabul.”

Asif asserted that Pakistan has “the full strength to respond” if such attacks continue, warning that the government in Kabul must take responsibility for cross-border terrorism. The defence minister’s remarks appear to be an attempt to project military strength despite Pakistan’s worsening economic crisis and strained diplomatic relations.

Asif also courted controversy for downplaying the recent high-intensity car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed 13 people. He described the explosion as a “gas cylinder blast” and accused India of “politicising the issue” to frame Pakistan.

Indian security officials dismissed his comments as “baseless propaganda,” saying they reflect Islamabad’s nervousness following forensic reports indicating that the Delhi explosion involved military-grade explosives.

The provocative rhetoric comes at a time when Pakistan faces increasing domestic instability and renewed militant threats, raising concerns about regional security and diplomatic tensions with India and Afghanistan.

India has delivered a strong rebuttal to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), after Islamabad made remarks about the alleged plight of Kashmiri women during a debate on women, peace, and security.

Speaking at the UNSC debate, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, called Pakistan’s claims a “delusional tirade” and accused it of hypocrisy and misinformation. “Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to Pakistan’s delusional tirade against my country, especially on Jammu and Kashmir — the Indian territory they covet,” Harish said.

He further reminded the world of Pakistan’s own record of atrocities, particularly during Operation Searchlight (1971), when the Pakistani army conducted mass killings and systematic sexual violence against Bengali women. “This is a country that sanctioned a genocidal campaign of mass rape of 400,000 women. The world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda,” Harish asserted.

The Indian envoy’s remarks came in response to Saima Saleem, Counsellor at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN, who accused India of committing human rights violations in Kashmir. Saleem claimed that Kashmiri women have faced decades of violence and abuse under “occupation.”

The UNSC debate marked 25 years of Resolution 1325, focusing on women’s safety and participation in conflict zones. India reiterated its commitment to women’s empowerment and peacebuilding, contrasting Pakistan’s human rights record with its consistent misuse of international platforms for political propaganda.

Earlier in September, India had also rebuked Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the UN General Assembly for spreading false narratives about the Kashmir conflict and India’s counter-terror operations.

India ridiculed Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for calling damaged air force bases a “victory” during his UN speech. Petal Gahlot, first secretary at India’s UN Mission, said India has won the conflict and urged Pakistan to “enjoy” its claims. She dismissed Sharif’s statements as theatrics and highlighted India’s firm stance against terrorism.

Gahlot clarified that India will not tolerate nuclear blackmail and will hold both terrorists and their sponsors accountable. She stressed that terrorism is central to Pakistan’s foreign policy, exposing its support and protection of terrorist groups. India also criticized Pakistan for shielding The Resistance Front (TRF), responsible for the Pahalgam tourist attack.

Regarding the May conflict, Gahlot stated that Pakistan threatened India until May 9, but requested a ceasefire on May 10 after Indian forces destroyed multiple airbases. Operation Sindoor targeted terror complexes in Bahawalpur and Muridke, neutralizing key militants. Gahlot emphasized that Pakistan’s officials glorifying terrorists proves their long-standing involvement in exporting terrorism.

India also rebutted Sharif’s claims involving the US in ceasefire facilitation. Gahlot reminded the UN that India-Pakistan issues are addressed bilaterally, with no room for third-party intervention. She concluded that Pakistan’s duplicity and glorification of terrorists at the highest levels cannot hide its continued support for terror activities.

India strongly criticized Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), accusing him of glorifying terrorism and spreading false narratives. Exercising India’s right of reply, Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, issued a sharp rebuttal to Sharif’s remarks.

Gahlot said the world once again witnessed “absurd theatrics” from the Pakistani leader, who sought to advance “ludicrous narratives” while ignoring Pakistan’s long history of sheltering terrorists. She reminded the assembly that Pakistan hid Osama bin Laden for nearly a decade while pretending to fight terrorism and recently blocked UN action against The Resistance Front, a Pakistan-backed terror group responsible for killing tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.

Countering Sharif’s claims about Operation Sindoor, Gahlot clarified that Indian forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. She added that despite Pakistan’s early threats, its military requested a ceasefire on May 10.

Sharif, meanwhile, praised former US President Donald Trump for facilitating peace talks, claiming Pakistan nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize. He also raised the Kashmir issue and criticized India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling any violation an “act of war.”

India maintained that Pakistan’s duplicity in exporting terrorism cannot be masked by political theatrics and urged the global community to recognize the truth behind Sharif’s statements.

India said on Thursday it will study the implications of the strategic mutual defence pact signed by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The agreement was finalised during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Riyadh at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to the pact, an attack on either country will be treated as aggression against both. The Saudi Press Agency noted that the deal aims to expand defence cooperation and strengthen joint deterrence.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed New Delhi was aware this agreement had been under discussion for some time. “We will study its implications for India’s national security as well as regional and global stability,” he said. He added that the government remains committed to safeguarding India’s national interests.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf. Recently, an Israeli strike in Doha targeted Hamas leaders, raising concerns about regional stability. Meanwhile, the pact also follows the four-day India-Pakistan conflict in May. That conflict began after Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Therefore, analysts believe India will closely monitor how this new alignment impacts South Asian and Middle Eastern security dynamics.
