The holy Jore Sahib relics of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji will soon move to a new home where devotees can pay respects. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked him to arrange a suitable place.

The Puri family has preserved these relics for over 300 years. They include a footwear each of Guru Gobind Singh Ji (11″ x 3½”) and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji (9″ x 3″). Guru Sahib himself blessed the family with this seva. Now the family wants to share the relics with the sangat.

Hardeep Puri, as the eldest member, took the lead. He formed a committee with Sikh leaders and presented their recommendations to the Prime Minister. The Ministry of Culture examined the relics, and carbon testing confirmed their authenticity.

PM Modi has always supported Sikh heritage and its preservation. With his guidance, the Jore Sahib relics will be displayed with dignity. This step will allow devotees to connect deeply with the blessings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.

On September 16, Jeeta filed a police complaint after a group of miscreants allegedly tried to push pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar out of the city.

Viral social media clips showed men inside the Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib complex harassing visitors, checking their IDs, and forcing them toward the railway station. Jeeta rushed to the site, intervened, and stopped them. He said the act went against Sikh values, which uphold the right of everyone to seek blessings in a gurdwara.

Jeeta warned that such actions could harm Punjab’s image, especially that of Sikhs, across India. “As a Sikh, I can visit Patna Sahib freely. Similarly, pilgrims from Bihar and UP have every right to visit Anandpur Sahib,” he said. He also revealed that he had been trolled online for speaking out.

Police confirmed receiving the complaint, and an investigation is underway. The incident highlights growing tensions but also shows efforts by leaders to safeguard migrant labourers in Punjab and preserve communal harmony.

The programme, organised by the Punjab Government, had included a dance performance that upset Sikh religious circles.

Acting Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj summoned both Zafar and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains to explain their roles. Bains appeared on August 6 and accepted tankhah (religious punishment) from the Sikh high priests.

Zafar was abroad during that hearing. After returning, he submitted an eight-page reply on August 14. When he appeared before the Takht, Zafar said he respected the authority of Sikh leaders. He also declared that he was ready to undergo any form of tankhah announced.

The case underlines the influence of Sikh religious institutions in Punjab’s social and political life. By submitting before the Takht, both leaders showed respect for Sikh sentiments. Officials in Punjab often face scrutiny when government events conflict with religious traditions.

This episode highlights how cultural programmes can quickly turn into matters of faith. It also shows that leaders still seek legitimacy and acceptance through Sikh institutions. The Akal Takht’s role remains strong in shaping public accountability in Punjab.
