The Bihar election setback became a major topic inside the Congress party after its poor performance. The Bihar election setback pushed the leadership to review every reason behind the defeat. Senior leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and K.C. Venugopal, met nearly 70 candidates and MPs to understand what went wrong.

Many leaders said the party focused too much on issues like SIR and “vote theft” instead of speaking on local problems such as inflation, corruption and migration. KC Venugopal also claimed that the election result was managed and fabricated, and he said EVMs and SIR were misused.

Some members blamed the alliance with the RJD, saying it helped in some seats but created polarization in others. Others said AIMIM split minority votes, especially in Seemanchal.

Local workers pointed out that women voters received direct financial benefits from the government, which increased support for the ruling side. Complaints about booth manipulation, influence of Jeevika Didis and vote buying were also raised in the meetings.

Another section highlighted caste census issues. They argued that upper-caste candidates won far above their population share, while large OBC groups won only in proportion to their numbers.

SIR Impact Shakes Results in Bihar

Bihar election voter deletions became a major political issue after the recent Bihar Assembly elections. Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Voting for all 243 seats took place on 6 and 11 November, and the state recorded its highest turnout ever. A strong 67.13% of voters participated. Women voted in larger numbers with 71.78%, while men recorded 62.98%. This rise in turnout brought fresh attention to Bihar election voter deletions, which many parties claim changed key results.

Opposition parties, especially the RJD and Congress, blamed the Special Intensive Voter Revision (SIR) for their defeat. They alleged that names were removed unfairly from voter lists. Data from the Election Commission showed that the BJP won three of the five seats with the highest number of deletions. JDU won one seat, and Congress secured one.

Gopalganj had the most deletions at 56,793. Purnia followed with 50,767, and Motihari had 49,747. BJP won all three. Kishanganj saw 42,940 deletions and was won by Congress. In contrast, Darbhanga recorded the lowest deletions at 2,859. Smaller deletions in Bettiah, Dehri, Chanpatia, and Mahua showed mixed results across parties.

Women Voter Cuts Shake Seemanchal

In the Bihar Election, all parties are focusing on women voters in Seemanchal. This flood-prone region depends heavily on women, as many men migrate for jobs. However, the recent deletion of 3.54 lakh women voters after the SIR has shocked political parties. Earlier, Seemanchal had over 37.72 lakh women voters, but now the count is just 34.18 lakh. This fall may affect election outcomes.

In 2020, women’s voter turnout was 11% higher than men’s in districts like Purnia, Katihar, Araria, and Kishanganj. Women in Seemanchal have always voted more actively, shaping leaders’ victories. But after the revision, female voter numbers dropped sharply—Purnia now has 9.81 lakh, Katihar 9.81 lakh, Araria 9.36 lakh, and Kishanganj only 5.18 lakh women voters.

With women being the key deciding factor, this deletion could upset the vote balance. Every party now eyes female votes to secure Seemanchal’s 24 seats.
