Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parambans Singh Romana on Tuesday accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of politicising the sensitive ‘saroop’ issue for political benefit. He linked the move to the growing SAD resurgence saroop politics after recent electoral gains.

Romana said the Chief Minister revived the issue after SAD performed well in the Tarn Taran bypoll and the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections. He claimed the timing exposed political intent.

Addressing a press conference, Romana stated that Mann had earlier accepted the Bhai Isher Singh Committee report. The report clearly concluded that no ‘saroop’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib had been stolen.

He explained that the matter only involved the non-deposit of the required donation with the SGPC during distribution of ‘saroops’. He said the issue never involved theft or sacrilege.

Romana recalled that when SGPC staff approached the High Court, the AAP government told the court that SGPC had handled the issue. At that time, the government opposed any further intervention.

He accused the Chief Minister of changing his stand due to shifting political equations and the SAD resurgence saroop politics narrative. Romana said the government ignored directions from Sri Akal Takht, which called the issue an internal Sikh matter.

He also criticised the government for avoiding discussions on law and order and Punjab’s finances. Romana questioned the SIT’s formation and sought answers on the appointment of an accused to a key post.

Guwahati, Assam — 25 November 2025:
On the first day of the Assam Assembly’s winter session, Speaker Biswajit Daimary approved an adjournment motion on the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg, following a request by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The decision came after opposition and independent MLAs sought permission to raise the issue in the House.

Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia and Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi had requested to move adjournment motions regarding the singer’s death. Before ruling on the motions, Chief Minister Sarma intervened, stating that the government shared the concern over Garg’s demise and requested that the motion be allowed. He also highlighted the urgency of introducing certain bills and supplementary grants, which needed to be placed in the House. Sarma assured that members from the Treasury benches would refrain from speaking on the motion, and the government would only provide its official response.

The Speaker approved the motion and directed that the bills and supplementary grants be introduced after the discussion on the singer’s death. He also urged members to avoid making comments that could interfere with the ongoing investigation into the case.

Zubeen Garg, a celebrated cultural icon of Assam, tragically passed away while swimming in Singapore on 19 September 2025. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police is actively probing the circumstances surrounding his death.

The approval of the adjournment motion underscores the widespread grief and concern over the singer’s untimely demise, while allowing the Assam Assembly to continue with its legislative agenda, ensuring that urgent government business proceeds alongside discussions on the incident.

In the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy, who was recently released on interim bail, faces a fresh hearing. The ACB Court had earlier granted him interim bail to cast his vote in the Vice-Presidential election, with a direction to surrender at Rajahmundry Central Jail on September 11. His lawyer argued for regular bail before the court, which adjourned the hearing to September 12.

Meanwhile, the court also postponed the hearing on co-accused Chanakya’s bail plea to September 11. In another development, three accused in the same case — Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishnamohan, and Balaji Govindappa (A31, A32, A33) — were granted regular bail by the ACB Court. They were released from jail on September 7.

However, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) challenged their bail in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking a stay order. The SIT also requested the court to deny default bail petitions of other accused. The High Court, after hearing the matter, issued notices to the recently released individuals.

Additionally, the SIT urged that bail not be granted to other accused in the liquor scam case. The High Court adjourned further hearings in the matter to September 11. This case continues to draw attention as multiple bail petitions and legal challenges unfold.
