TN CM Stalin Backs UGC Equity Regulations and called them a “delayed but welcome step” toward reforming India’s higher education system. He said the University Grants Commission’s (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, aim to dismantle caste discrimination and promote inclusion of OBCs and other marginalized communities.

Stalin emphasized that these regulations deserve full support. The Union government must resist pressures that seek to weaken their core objectives, he said. “As seen during the implementation of reservations based on the #MandalCommission recommendations, the present #UGC_Rollback backlash is driven by the same regressive mindset,” he added in a social media post.

The Chief Minister pointed out that India’s higher education system has long struggled with institutional apathy and deep-rooted discrimination. The new UGC framework, he said, provides an important legal and structural mechanism to ensure equity and inclusion across universities and colleges.

By endorsing the UGC regulations, Stalin underlined the need for proactive policies that protect the rights of marginalized students. He urged educational authorities and policymakers to implement the provisions effectively without compromise.

TN CM Stalin Backs UGC Equity Regulations marks a strong statement in favor of social justice and higher education reforms at a time when debates over equity and reservation policies continue across India.

The meeting took place after authorities demolished 42 houses in the locality following court orders. The victims said their families had lived there for many years and lost everything after the demolition. They explained that they were left without shelter and requested Jagan to pressure the government for justice.

Several victims shared that they bought the land with proper registration documents. They added that they built their homes using bank loans. They said officials brought down the structures without giving them enough time to respond. Many residents became emotional while explaining their situation to Jagan.

The victims claimed that the demolition created a severe crisis for their children and elderly family members. They urged immediate relief and rehabilitation support. They stated that the government should verify their ownership papers before taking strict action. They also demanded clear answers from local authorities.

Jagan assured the families that he would extend full support. He said he would explore legal and humanitarian options to help the affected residents. He visited OU and explained that his government plans to upgrade the 108-year-old institution to international standards. He recalled that Telangana’s early movement began on this campus and noted that its spirit still inspires students today. He added that he came with a ₹1,000-crore commitment to reshape the university.

During the event, he rejected a prepared script and chose to speak from his experience. He said students should grow into lawyers, doctors, IAS officers and intellectuals. He described his rural background and said it shaped his understanding of people’s lives. Moreover, he assured that the government will develop the campus by including student and expert suggestions.

Revanth Reddy also highlighted social justice issues. He stressed that true development begins when the poorest receive real opportunities. He pointed to past failures in land distribution and questioned leaders who built large farmhouses while many Dalit families lacked basic resources. He reminded students that OU produced several national icons, including PV Narasimha Rao and Gaddar.

Furthermore, he said education brings progress, equality and dignity. He explained new projects such as Young India Integrated Schools and Young India Sports Schools. He said these institutions aim to create future champions and prepare students for global success.

Leaders across India marked Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary today with heartfelt tributes. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy joined them by sharing his message on X. He reflected on Ambedkar’s contribution as the architect of the Constitution. Moreover, he explained that strong nation-building begins with clarity of purpose and responsibility.

Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that true respect for the Constitution comes only through consistent practice. He emphasised that Ambedkar worked tirelessly for equality and justice. Because of this vision, Jagan urged citizens to uphold the values Ambedkar promoted. He noted that these principles continue to guide India’s democratic progress.

During his message, Jagan highlighted the need for equal opportunities for every citizen. He added that rights must be protected without bias or discrimination. As Ambedkar strongly believed in unity, Jagan reminded people to rise above caste, religion, region, and language. In addition, he said that harmony and mutual respect form the foundation of a healthy society.

Jagan concluded that Ambedkar’s speeches and writings offered timeless lessons for the world. He admired Ambedkar as a visionary who turned the aspirations of the oppressed into constitutional safeguards. With that, he said Ambedkar’s legacy continues to inspire movements for equality and empowerment.

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step to eliminate begging across the state. With an increasing number of beggars in temples, schools, and streets, the government has introduced the Begging Prevention (Amendment) Act 2025. The new law took effect this week.

Under the new Act, begging is now considered a serious criminal offense throughout the state. Governor approval was granted on October 15, and the Act was published in the state gazette on October 27. Law Department Secretary Gottapu Pratibha Devi issued Government Order (GO) MS No. 58 to enforce the law.

The Welfare and Police Departments will jointly enforce the Act. Authorities aim to dismantle organized begging networks and protect vulnerable people from exploitation by begging mafias operating in the state.

The government will also offer rehabilitation programs for those affected by the law. These programs focus on creating employment and providing social protection for people pushed into begging, fostering a more humane and secure environment across Andhra Pradesh.
