West Bengal saw the highest number of deletions, with over 58 lakh names removed from voter lists. Rajasthan followed with nearly 42 lakh deletions. Goa recorded about 10 lakh removals, while Puducherry saw just over one lakh names deleted. Lakshadweep reported nearly 1,500 deletions.

The revision comes ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled in 2026. Unlike the earlier Bihar revision, voters were not required to submit supporting documents at this stage. All voters who submitted Enumeration Forms were included in the draft list.

The Election Commission stated that officials will now verify doubtful cases. Voters may be asked to produce documents if discrepancies arise. The draft also includes voters who were unmapped earlier or incorrectly matched.

In West Bengal, over 92 percent of voters submitted Enumeration Forms. Most deletions involved deceased voters, shifted residents, or duplicate enrollments. Similar patterns appeared across other regions.

The draft rolls are available on the Chief Electoral Officer websites and the ECINET app. Voters can file claims or objections until January 15, 2026. The final rolls will be published on February 14.

Official data shows that 24 lakh names were marked as deceased. Around 19 lakh voters were listed as relocated. Another 12 lakh were categorised as missing, while 1.3 lakh entries were flagged as duplicates. The revision aims to remove duplication and errors ahead of the next Assembly elections.

Voters whose names are missing from the draft list can file objections and seek corrections. Authorities will examine claims before publishing the final voter list in February next year. The Election Commission is expected to announce election dates after the final list is released.

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy termed the deletions unjust. He alleged a conspiracy to remove genuine voters and said the party has opened assistance booths to help affected voters submit forms.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also opposed the exercise. She accused the Centre and the Election Commission of targeting eligible voters. At a recent rally, she urged people to protest if their names were deleted.

The BJP rejected the allegations. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said SIR removes fake and illegal voters. He claimed the Trinamool fears losing power due to voter list cleanup.

The draft rolls cover 199 Assembly constituencies after reorganisation and include 61,136 polling stations across the state. District Election Officers will also share the lists with recognised political parties. Along with the voter rolls, the ASD list, covering absentee, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters, will remain available in an accessible format online.

Mahajan urged voters to immediately check their names. Citizens whose names do not appear must submit Form-6 along with a declaration to get enrolled. Young voters turning 18 by April 1, July 1, or October 1, 2026, can apply in advance using Form-6.

He clarified that officials cannot delete any voter name without providing a hearing through the ERO or AERO and issuing a written order. Voters can appeal such decisions before the District Collector or Chief Electoral Officer.

The CEO credited BLOs, volunteers, and booth-level agents for ensuring statewide coverage under the “every village, every ward, every home” campaign.

The report also states that over 31.39 lakh voters will be called for hearings during the revision process. In addition, officials have identified more than 13.74 lakh ASD discrepancies. These include cases marked as Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate.

West Bengal currently has 7.66 crore registered voters. Among the uncollectible cases, Kolkata North has reported the highest share at 25.92 percent. Purba Medinipur recorded the lowest figure at 3.31 percent. Kolkata South followed closely with 23.82 percent uncollectible entries.

Several districts showed comparatively lower discrepancies. Bankura, Cooch Behar, Murshidabad, and Nadia reported figures below five percent. Kolkata North and South remain politically significant, as they include key Trinamool Congress strongholds.

Border districts accounted for the highest ASD discrepancies. North 24 Parganas recorded over 2.01 lakh such cases, while South 24 Parganas reported nearly 1.95 lakh. Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda also came under scrutiny due to high migration patterns.

Meanwhile, a similar revision exercise in Bihar reduced its voter count by nearly 47 lakh names. The Election Commission said further action will depend on hearings and verification outcomes.
