New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has underlined the importance of maintaining India’s military strength as global power equations continue to shift rapidly. Speaking at a strategic affairs conference, he noted that while India has always been a peace-loving nation, it cannot afford to adopt a passive stance in today’s unpredictable environment.

General Chauhan pointed out that the nature of warfare is evolving beyond traditional battlefields. He highlighted the increasing role of cyber operations, artificial intelligence, space-based assets, and unmanned systems in modern conflicts. India, he said, must prepare to counter these emerging challenges while strengthening conventional military readiness.

Emphasizing self-reliance, the CDS urged greater focus on indigenous defense manufacturing, research, and technological innovation. He praised recent progress under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative but stressed that more needs to be done to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.

General Chauhan also reiterated the importance of regional stability, calling for stronger maritime security in the Indian Ocean and continued vigilance along the country’s borders. His remarks come at a time when India is facing both security challenges in its neighborhood and a rapidly shifting global order.

The CDS concluded by asserting that India’s path to peace rests on strength, deterrence, and preparedness.
