Komal Kumari was heading to her matric board exam in the Patna district when traffic delays slowed her down. Officials at the centre refused to let her appear for the exam because she missed the reporting time.

Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav attacked the Nitish Kumar government. He called the administration cruel and incompetent. He said rigid rules should not cost a young student her life.

Tejashwi demanded compensation for the family and asked officials to adopt a humane approach during exams.

Police reached the lodge and broke open the door. They found the student hanging from a rope inside the room. His mobile phone and earphones were still connected, which suggested he was talking on the phone just before the incident. Lodge staff said the student returned to his room in the evening and did not come out afterward.

Initial checks showed the student had a long phone conversation with a girl shortly before his death. Police believe emotional stress may have triggered the step, but they are still verifying all details. The mobile phone has been seized for further investigation.

Family members arrived after receiving the news and were in deep shock. Police sent the body for postmortem examination. Officials said they will question close contacts to understand why the Bihar student commits suicide during talk with girlfriend on mobile phone.

The student’s father alleges that his son was subjected to long-term mental harassment by multiple teachers. According to the FIR, one teacher mocked him for “overacting” during drama or dance class, while others allegedly threatened to issue a Transfer Certificate. There are even claims that one teacher physically pushed the boy.

In his suicide note, the teenager expressed deep pain, apologising to his family and stating that his teachers had been a source of torment. He also expressed a wish for his organs to be donated, highlighting his anguish even in his final moments.

Following these serious accusations, the school has suspended four staff members, including two teachers, the coordinator for Class 9–10, and the headmistress. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Education Department has set up a five‑member panel to conduct a “thorough, objective and time-bound” inquiry into the incident and the school’s role.

Police say they are also cross-verifying the CCTV visuals with statements from classmates and other students to piece together what happened before the tragedy. The FIR has been filed under abetment to suicide and common intention. Investigators are examining all angles, including the conduct of the accused teachers, the student’s own mental state, and whether adequate steps were taken by the school to protect and support vulnerable students.

This incident has sparked outrage among parents, students, and alumni, who are demanding accountability and greater sensitivity toward student mental health. The probe is being closely watched, and its outcome could have broader implications for teacher conduct and school safety policies in the capital.

The teenager, identified as Shourya Patil, reportedly jumped from Rajendra Place Metro Station on November 18, 2025. In his suicide note, recovered from his school bag, he named several teachers and expressed regret, apologizing to his family and requesting that his organs be donated.

Shourya’s father stated that for the past eight to ten months, his son had repeatedly complained about being scolded for minor mistakes. He alleged that one teacher threatened to call his parents and potentially have his transfer certificate (TC) issued. On the day of the tragedy, Shourya fell during a dramatics class and was allegedly mocked by the teacher for “overacting.” The father also claimed that the boy faced threats of expulsion just before his board prelim exams.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered with the Delhi Police under abetment to suicide, based on the father’s complaint. The case has sparked protests outside St Columba’s School, with parents and students demanding accountability for the teachers involved.

This tragic incident has reignited debates around student mental health, school accountability, and the pressures faced by adolescents in high-stakes academic environments. Authorities are expected to examine both teacher conduct and the school environment as part of their investigation. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe, supportive learning environments in schools.

Students claimed Patil had confided in a school counsellor that he was experiencing suicidal thoughts. They alleged he had been “tortured” for the past six months and subjected to repeated humiliation by certain teachers. Many said teachers often “body shamed”, “mocked”, and “insulted” students for minor issues. One student recounted an incident during dance practice where Patil was publicly ridiculed in front of Headmistress Aparajita Pal.

Shourya’s father, Pradeep Patil, said his son was “publicly humiliated” on the day he took his life after he slipped during rehearsals. He alleged a teacher taunted Shourya as he cried on stage. The grieving father also named three teachers — Julie Vargis, Manu Kalra and Yukti Mahajan — accusing them of threatening or mistreating his son. None of the teachers or the school administration has responded so far.

The suicide note revealed Patil’s deep emotional distress and overwhelming guilt. He apologised repeatedly to his mother, father and brother, writing that he could no longer cope with the behaviour of some teachers. He also requested that his organs be donated “if in a condition to work.”

As the school faces mounting questions over student welfare and allegations of misconduct, authorities have yet to issue an official statement. The investigation into the teenager’s tragic death continues.

Police said they recovered a one-page note from the boy’s possession, which is being examined as part of the investigation. Authorities have not released the contents of the note, citing the sensitive nature of the case.

According to officials, the 15-year-old lived with his family in the Rajiv Nagar area and studied in a private school. His parents and relatives have been informed, and support is being extended to the family.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the metro station and speaking with possible witnesses to understand the circumstances that led to the incident. Police stated that no foul play is suspected at this stage, but all angles are being thoroughly examined.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the rising stress levels among school students, especially during academic pressure and exam cycles. Experts emphasize the need for regular mental health support, open communication at home, and awareness programs in schools to help students cope with emotional distress.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed. Further details will be released once the inquiry progresses.
