Rajasthan Panchayat election countdown has officially begun after the Supreme Court cleared the final legal hurdle. The apex court approved the state’s panchayat delimitation process and fixed a strict deadline for elections. This decision brings relief to millions of rural voters and aspiring candidates waiting for polls.

A bench led by the Chief Justice rejected special leave petitions filed by villagers from Singhaniya and other areas. The petitioners challenged the new delimitation and panchayat reorganisation. They argued that villages were merged with distant and inaccessible panchayats. The court refused to reopen the process.

The state government defended its stand strongly. Additional Advocate General Shiv Mangal Sharma told the court that delimitation did not rely only on distance. Authorities considered population, administrative convenience, and detailed district collector reports. The government completed the process legally by December 31, 2025. The State Election Commission has started preparing voter lists.

The Supreme Court upheld the Rajasthan High Court order. It directed the state to complete all Panchayati Raj elections by April 15, 2026. The court said any delay would disrupt the election schedule statewide.

However, the court allowed limited relief. Gram panchayats may submit objections regarding headquarters locations. Such complaints will not affect elections or delimitation. The ruling makes elections unavoidable and sets the political stage in rural Rajasthan.

The Supreme Court has granted relief to accused Mattaiah (A4) in the high-profile cash-for-vote case linked to Telangana politics. Mattaiah had earlier been acquitted by the Telangana High Court in 2016, but the then KCR-led government had challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court, keeping the case under judicial scrutiny for years.

The matter reached its final stage when the bench headed by Chief Justice Gavai concluded arguments on the issue on the 22nd of this month. Today, the Supreme Court delivered its verdict, upholding the acquittal and providing relief to Mattaiah, marking a significant development in the long-running case.

This decision has been closely watched due to its political implications, as the case had involved allegations of electoral malpractice. The Supreme Court’s ruling now ends Mattaiah’s legal battle in this matter, reaffirming the earlier High Court decision.

The Supreme Court of India is set to pronounce its verdict today on the ongoing vote-for-cash case involving Andhra Pradesh political figures. The case revolves around a petition by the state government seeking an investigation into the role of Jerusalem Matthayya (A4). The government has challenged the earlier decision of the Joint High Court, which had quashed Matthayya’s name from the Supreme Court proceedings.

In a recent development, Matthayya submitted a letter to the Supreme Court alleging that AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was the mastermind behind the scheme and urging that he be investigated. The case had already created a political storm earlier, particularly following the arrest of then TDP MLA Revanth Reddy, which drew significant media attention.

Today’s verdict is expected to clarify the scope of investigations and could have major political and legal implications for Andhra Pradesh, potentially affecting key leaders and party dynamics in the state.
