Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir is facing sharp political isolation in West Bengal after multiple parties distanced themselves from his recent statements. The Trinamool Congress, which suspended him earlier, is now preparing to shift his Assembly seat away from ruling party members and closer to the Opposition benches. Party leaders confirmed that seating arrangements will change in the coming days.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari escalated the debate by calling Kabir’s remarks “Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s language” and accused him of challenging Bengali Hindu sentiments. Congress and Left parties have also avoided extending support, even as Kabir continues to claim he will launch a new political outfit soon.

AIMIM rejected any possibility of an alliance, calling Kabir’s proposals politically suspicious and ideologically inconsistent. Meanwhile, Congress held a ‘Sadbhavna Rally’ in Kolkata, accusing both TMC and BJP of exploiting communal fears for political gains.

Tension erupted outside the West Bengal CEO’s office on Monday as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari arrived for a scheduled meeting and was met with loud protests from the BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee. As Adhikari exited, protesters shouted “chor chor,” prompting him to retaliate with counter-slogans targeting the state government.

Police had erected multiple barricades, but protesters tried to break through, demanding entry to submit a memorandum. The group, which has been agitating for better working conditions, sought a two-month extension for the SIR deadline and compensation for families of deceased BLOs.

Inside the office, Adhikari submitted a memorandum seeking the removal of “superannuated IAS officers,” exclusion of EROs below SDO rank, and deletion of names he claimed belonged to “Bangladeshi Muslims.” He also demanded CCTV monitoring of all hearings.

BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of orchestrating the protest using party cadres and alleged attempts to protect Rohingya and Bangladeshi voters ahead of 2026 polls. She further claimed the state failed to provide required data entry operators, increasing BLO workload and leading to stress-related deaths.
