Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that Swachh Andhra Pradesh means more than just keeping streets clean. It requires sustainable systems and long-term planning. Speaking at the district collectors’ conference, he addressed a session on Swachh Bharat Circular Economy.

Naidu recalled studying Singapore’s model, which inspired greenery and sanitation drives in Andhra Pradesh. Under his leadership, Hyderabad first introduced night cleaning. He urged officials to improve solid and liquid waste management and insisted that drains must be cleaned regularly. Moreover, he promised new technology to stop rainwater from entering homes. For the first time, Poura Sevaks were also recruited to support cleanliness drives.

Municipal and Urban Development Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar explained the state’s integrated plan. Andhra Pradesh received recognition in Swachh Survekshan, which reflected progress in sanitation and waste management. He said the government aims to clear 85.90 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste by October 2025 and another 30 lakh tonnes by December 2025.

Waste-to-energy projects already function in Visakhapatnam and Guntur, converting hundreds of tonnes of garbage into power daily. By 2027, six plants will operate in major cities, including Nellore, Rajahmundry, and Tirupati. The state secretariat has gone single-use plastic free, and all government offices will adopt the same by December 2025.
