The Telangana Cabinet has approved the installation of smart meters under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). With this decision, smart meters in Telangana will be introduced in phases across the state, except for agricultural electricity connections.

The government said the RDSS scheme aims to reduce power distribution losses, improve billing transparency, and modernize electricity services. Officials clarified that the Centre and the state government will share the project cost, so consumers will not face any extra financial burden.

Smart meters in Telangana will digitally send electricity usage data directly to DISCOM servers. This system removes manual meter reading and helps reduce billing mistakes. Consumers can also track daily power usage through mobile apps and control electricity consumption more efficiently.

The Cabinet also stated that the previous government had signed an agreement related to the scheme in 2017, but implementation did not move forward.

Telangana Land Prices are likely to rise soon after the state cabinet approved a proposal to revise property market values. The decision came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the state secretariat.

The government plans to correct the gap between official land values and real market rates. Officials said Telangana Land Prices in several areas differ widely from actual property prices. The registration department will update these values using a scientific method. The revised rates may come into effect by the end of this month.

District-level market value revision committees will study local property trends and recommend new rates. Many landowners had complained that government compensation for acquired land was lower than market prices. The revision aims to address this issue.

The cabinet also allowed applicants under the HILT policy to pay 10% of the amount first before the new rates take effect. They can pay the remaining 90% within 90 days.

Allegations about Telangana policy leaks controversy are rising as senior officials in the Industries Department reportedly pass sensitive decisions to BRS leaders. Congress has been in power for nearly two years, yet some officers are said to stay loyal to the previous regime. Recent decisions from the Industries Department reportedly reached BRS circles within minutes, triggering political tension.

During the latest cabinet meeting, the government approved the Hyderabad Industrial Lands Transformation Policy (HILTP). The guidelines are still being drafted. Yet full details allegedly reached close associates of BRS working president KTR. He later attacked the government using the same information. The incident created strong discussions within the Secretariat.

Officials say decisions from cabinet discussions should remain confidential until issued as a Government Order. However, reports claim details of HILTP, industrial shifting plans and fee structures leaked even before approval. BRS leaders then accused the Congress government of enabling a massive land scam. The quick political reaction raised doubts about internal leaks.

Sources say several officers who benefited during the BRS rule still keep regular contact with former leaders. Departments like Industries are under watch after repeated leaks. The Congress government is reportedly tracking the officers involved and preparing action against those responsible.

The Telangana cabinet approved the formation of the Directorate of Nursing on June 6, raising long-pending hopes among nursing employees. However, they say the government has released no update even after five months. Major unions argue that senior officials continue to ignore the implementation process. The proposal aims to unite nursing staff who now work separately under DME, DH and TVVP, yet nurses claim that one senior official’s behaviour is slowing the entire decision.

Nursing unions point out that governments promised this directorate several times in the undivided state and again after Telangana’s formation. Former Health Minister Laxma Reddy also assured the Assembly that the government would create it. Moreover, current Health Minister Damodar Raja Narsimha secured cabinet approval for the plan. Even so, union leaders say official negligence has stalled the file. They now demand firm action and immediate execution of the directorate.

The government earlier announced that it would soon release guidelines on structure, staffing and operations. Yet unions report that repeated visits to the Secretariat and various health offices brought no response. Consequently, they want the minister to intervene and act against the officer responsible for the delay. They describe the inaction as disrespect to the cabinet’s decision.

Unions further argue that the directorate could finally address long-standing issues such as promotions, vacancies, transfers, deputations and service disputes. Today, more than 20,000 nursing employees work across multiple departments, and unions also allege corruption and file blocking under the current administration. Therefore, they believe the directorate would improve transparency and speed up solutions.

Congress senior leader and former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin took oath as a Telangana minister on Friday. The ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan, where Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered the oath. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, and other ministers attended the event.

Political circles are now abuzz with speculation over which portfolio Azharuddin will receive. Reports suggest he may be assigned either the Home or Minority Welfare department. The final decision is expected within the next couple of days, according to party sources.

So far, there have been no Muslim representatives in the Telangana Cabinet. Opposition parties have criticized the government over this issue and even used it as a major talking point during the Jubilee Hills by-election campaign. By inducting Azharuddin, the Congress aims to strengthen minority representation and gain support in the upcoming by-election.

Azharuddin, inspired by his uncle Jainulabuddin, began his cricket journey in the early 1980s and made his international debut in 1984. He later captained Team India, earning widespread acclaim for his leadership and remarkable performances on the field.
