Known as Dunnapothula Panduga, the celebration brings together decorated buffaloes, traditional bands, and thousands of visitors each year.

The main event takes place at Narayanguda YMCA, where the festival began in 1946 under Salandri Nyayam Chowdhary Mallaiah Yadav. What started as a small gathering has become one of Hyderabad’s biggest cultural events. The Pedha Sadar, organised by Mallaiah Yadav’s family, continues to keep the 79-year-old tradition alive.

Festivities begin with Go Puja, a ritual similar to Govardhan Puja. Devotees create a symbolic Mount Govardhan using cow dung, sweets, and rangoli. When the first buffalo steps on the lit diya, the festival officially begins, marking the bond between humans and cattle.

Major celebrations also take place in Shaikpet, Saidabad, Ameerpet, Khairatabad, and Madhapur.

In his speech at the *September 17 celebrations* in Telangana Bhavan, *KTR, the Working President of the BRS and former Minister, emphasized the need for a **welfare and development-oriented* government in the state. He expressed a strong desire for a *democratic state free of authoritarian practices*.

KTR highlighted Telangana’s legacy of struggles, from the *armed peasant movement* to the *1969 Telangana movement, and the fight for **democratic Telangana* under the leadership of *KCR. He assured that the **BRS* would continue to fight against any unjust government actions.

Referring to the *Group-1 students’ protests, KTR criticized the government’s authoritarian response, especially as **farmers* suffer due to shortages of *urea* while the government focuses on events like the Olympics. He called for *September 17* to be observed as a *Unity Day*, reiterating that Telangana’s children must continue to fight for a fair and just government.
