The recent death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash has revived memories of A chopper crash that changed the political landscape of united Andhra Pradesh. The 2009 helicopter crash that killed Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy shocked the State and left a deep political vacuum.

YSR had built a strong bond with voters through welfare schemes and personal outreach. His sudden death disrupted the Congress party’s grip on power. The leadership struggled to manage internal divisions and rising public anger.

In the aftermath, regional leaders seized the moment. K. Chandrashekar Rao intensified the Telangana movement and rebuilt the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. The demand for a separate State gained momentum and reshaped regional politics.

At the same time, YSR’s son, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, broke away from the Congress. He launched the YSR Congress Party and began a statewide outreach. His campaigns drew massive crowds and quickly turned him into a serious political force.

Within a few years, Congress lost its dominance in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. New parties filled the space and rewrote electoral equations.

The tragedy showed how one incident can alter history. A chopper crash that changed the political landscape of united Andhra Pradesh still influences politics in the two States today.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said Osmania University deserves admiration, not fear. He visited OU and explained that his government plans to upgrade the 108-year-old institution to international standards. He recalled that Telangana’s early movement began on this campus and noted that its spirit still inspires students today. He added that he came with a ₹1,000-crore commitment to reshape the university.

During the event, he rejected a prepared script and chose to speak from his experience. He said students should grow into lawyers, doctors, IAS officers and intellectuals. He described his rural background and said it shaped his understanding of people’s lives. Moreover, he assured that the government will develop the campus by including student and expert suggestions.

Revanth Reddy also highlighted social justice issues. He stressed that true development begins when the poorest receive real opportunities. He pointed to past failures in land distribution and questioned leaders who built large farmhouses while many Dalit families lacked basic resources. He reminded students that OU produced several national icons, including PV Narasimha Rao and Gaddar.

Furthermore, he said education brings progress, equality and dignity. He explained new projects such as Young India Integrated Schools and Young India Sports Schools. He said these institutions aim to create future champions and prepare students for global success.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao marked December 9 as a historic day that set Telangana’s statehood process in motion. He posted old photos of K. Chandrashekar Rao ending his fast, and said the final phase of the Telangana movement reached a turning point on this day. KTR noted that 16 years have passed since the Union government announced the start of the state formation process.

He said the combined struggle of all communities, the sacrifices of martyrs, and KCR’s indefinite fast pushed the Centre to respond. According to him, the movement’s intensity forced Delhi to recognise the demand for a separate state. KTR added that the people’s determination created an unstoppable wave for Telangana’s identity.

KTR also stressed that November 29, observed as Deeksha Day, played a key role in shaping the final outcome. He said the fast taken up by KCR on that day strengthened the movement and united lakhs of supporters across the state. The emotional force behind the protest made the demand reach national attention.

He further said December 9 would not exist without November 29, and June 2 would not exist without December 9. He called the sequence a reminder of Telangana’s long struggle and people’s resilience.

On the occasion of ‘Deeksha Divas’, Rao highlighted the 2009 November 29 hunger strike that transformed the Telangana movement. He said the protest created a new chapter in history and laid the foundation for the state.

Rao emphasized that KCR’s leadership inspired four crore people to fight tirelessly for Telangana. He added that the movement demanded courage, sacrifices, and dedication beyond holding official positions. Rao described KCR as the unwavering signature on Telangana’s enduring history.

He further stated that without KCR’s protest starting November 29, the December 9 announcement creating Telangana would not have occurred. Rama Rao (KTR) commemorated the 14th anniversary of the Sakala Janula Samme, calling it a historic turning point in the struggle for Telangana statehood. In a tweet, he said the strike highlighted how strong and united the people’s aspiration for a separate state was.

KTR recalled that on September 12, 2011, during the Karimnagar Jana Garjana, BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) gave the call for the mass strike, which was met with overwhelming participation across Telangana. The movement resonated with the slogan “Aur ek dhakka, Telangana pakka” (One more push, Telangana is certain), symbolizing the people’s determination.

He expressed gratitude to all those who took part in the agitation, noting that the strike not only paralyzed the state’s functioning but also carried the intensity of Telangana’s demand all the way to Delhi , ensuring national attention and eventual success of the statehood movement.
