India strongly condemned Pakistan’s air strikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the United Nations Human Rights Council. At least 30 people, mostly civilians, were reportedly killed in the attacks on Monday. India accused Pakistan of making provocative statements against it in the forum.

Speaking at the 60th UNHRC session, India’s Counsellor Kshitij Tyagi criticized Pakistan’s human rights record and political situation. He urged Pakistan to focus on rescuing its economy and polity instead of coveting Indian territory or exporting terrorism. Tyagi called for the Council to remain objective and non-selective.

Reports indicate that Pakistan Air Force fighter jets dropped eight LS-6 bombs on Matre Dara village in the Tirah Valley. The strikes targeted Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants, who allegedly used civilians as human shields. Two Taliban commanders, Aman Gul and Masood Khan, were reportedly hiding explosives at the site, which detonated during the attack.

Locals shared videos showing injured children and destruction in the village. Around 2,000 people demonstrated in a nearby town against the deadly strikes. The Pakistani government has not released an official statement yet, and four houses were confirmed damaged.

The recent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Airstrike Deaths have left at least 30 people dead, including women and children, in the Tirah Valley. The Pakistani Air Force dropped eight LS-6 bombs on Matre Dara village early Monday morning around 2 a.m., resulting in massive destruction and a tragic loss of civilian lives.

All confirmed fatalities so far are civilians, while several others have been injured, though their conditions remain unclear. Disturbing footage and photos from the site show bodies, including those of children, scattered across the area. Rescue teams continue searching under rubble, raising fears that the death toll may rise further.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a long history of counter-terrorism operations and drone strikes, which have frequently resulted in civilian casualties. Earlier this year, Amnesty International warned that recurrent air and drone strikes in the region show a disregard for civilian life. Isabelle Lassee, Deputy Regional Director for South Asia at Amnesty, highlighted that authorities have failed to protect residents amid escalating attacks.

According to local police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 605 terror incidents between January and August 2025, claiming the lives of 138 civilians and 79 police personnel. August alone saw 129 incidents, including six deaths among army and paramilitary personnel.

Following Operation Sindoor, which destroyed nine major terrorist hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) are reportedly establishing new bases deeper in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near the Afghan border. The province’s mountainous terrain and historical hideouts from the Soviet-Afghan war and post-9/11 conflicts provide natural cover, complicating security efforts.

This tragic incident underscores the vulnerability of civilians in conflict-prone areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as ongoing airstrikes and counter-terrorism operations continue to put lives at risk.
