TN CM Stalin Backs UGC Equity Regulations and called them a “delayed but welcome step” toward reforming India’s higher education system. He said the University Grants Commission’s (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, aim to dismantle caste discrimination and promote inclusion of OBCs and other marginalized communities.

Stalin emphasized that these regulations deserve full support. The Union government must resist pressures that seek to weaken their core objectives, he said. “As seen during the implementation of reservations based on the #MandalCommission recommendations, the present #UGC_Rollback backlash is driven by the same regressive mindset,” he added in a social media post.

The Chief Minister pointed out that India’s higher education system has long struggled with institutional apathy and deep-rooted discrimination. The new UGC framework, he said, provides an important legal and structural mechanism to ensure equity and inclusion across universities and colleges.

By endorsing the UGC regulations, Stalin underlined the need for proactive policies that protect the rights of marginalized students. He urged educational authorities and policymakers to implement the provisions effectively without compromise.

TN CM Stalin Backs UGC Equity Regulations marks a strong statement in favor of social justice and higher education reforms at a time when debates over equity and reservation policies continue across India.
