Under Nitish Kumar’s pedestrian safety plan, the government will focus on giving pedestrians proper respect and secure spaces across cities and villages.

The Chief Minister directed officials to build strong and wide footpaths in busy areas. Authorities will add zebra crossings at important junctions to help people cross safely. In crowded zones, the government will construct foot overbridges and underpasses to reduce accidents.

The transport department will identify accident-prone black spots and install CCTV cameras for better monitoring. Drivers will also receive awareness training so they follow traffic rules and respect pedestrians.

This initiative is part of the state’s broader effort to improve public infrastructure and make daily travel safer. The government believes these steps will lower road accidents and encourage more people to walk without fear.

Bengaluru’s Hebbal flyover, long notorious for heavy traffic, has become significantly smoother after the addition of two new traffic loops. Motorists approaching from Byataranapura–Kodigehalli–Esteem Mall reported that travel times have dropped dramatically, especially during peak hours. A one-kilometre ride on a two-wheeler from Esteem Mall to Hebbal traffic police station now takes just over two minutes.

Commuters noted that bottlenecks still exist at Ganganagar and Mehkri Circle, slowing traffic occasionally. However, outside peak hours, the difference is stark, with bus commuters reaching Baptist Hospital from Jakkur in about 15 minutes. Motorists praised the smoother flow and reduced waiting times compared to earlier congestion.

Traffic officials explained that the new loops allow vehicles from KR Puram, Kodigehalli, and airport directions to move without interruptions. Earlier, stop-and-proceed methods created bottlenecks, requiring 15–20 traffic personnel. Now, only five officers manage the junction efficiently. CCTV monitoring, lane segregation, and volunteer deployment further ensure orderly movement.

Experts say the loops are a temporary solution and recommended widening ORR ramps and improving pedestrian crossings. While metro construction and minor chokepoints still affect traffic, overall travel on the Hebbal flyover has improved, giving motorists a near signal-free experience and reducing daily commute stress.

The Deputy Commissioner praised the new speed-calming features. He also appreciated the road signage updates that now follow national standards. Moreover, he asked the Engineering Department to speed up kerb-raising work. He instructed teams to repaint zebra crossings quickly and prune trees to improve visibility.

Furthermore, he ordered a special anti-encroachment drive. The drive will cover the roads from PEC to Khudda Alisher and from PGI to Khudda Lahora. Civil Defence Volunteers will support this effort. They will guide pedestrians, manage traffic during rush hours, and help police clear bottlenecks. They will also stop unauthorised vendors from returning.

In addition, officials reviewed the new Traffic Police Assistance Booth. The structure will be ready by the end of December.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the Health Department to speed up the EDAR emergency system. With this system, medical teams can respond faster, coordinate better, and evacuate victims quickly. It will also ensure free treatment for accident victims and strengthen Chandigarh’s road safety setup.

The Nagaland DMC Demolition Drive has begun in Dimapur as the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) launched a phase-wise operation to clear illegal and temporary structures across the city. The drive aims to ease traffic congestion, restore pedestrian pathways, and reclaim public spaces that street vendors and unauthorised stalls have occupied for years.

DMC chairman Hukheto Yepthomi said the demolition action started after an inspection on November 24 with the Dimapur Traffic Police. The first phase, launched on November 25, covered the New Market stretch, Batacharali, and the area beneath the new flyover. He confirmed that the demolition will continue despite the festive Christmas season.

Hukheto said the next phases will target Hazi Park, Hongkong Market, and other congested pockets. He added that teams will remove street-side encroachments in two major locations next week. Councillors are supervising ward-wise operations to ensure systematic clearance.

The chairman clarified that the Nagaland DMC Demolition Drive focuses only on illegal and temporary structures and does not touch permanent buildings at this stage. The DMC plans to convert the cleared spaces into designated parking areas to reduce growing traffic issues.

He recalled that in 2023, Urban Development advisor Zhaleo Rio directed the DMC to take strict action against unauthorised structures. “We are following that directive,” Hukheto said.

Officials noted that most makeshift stalls had obstructed both traffic flow and pedestrian movement. Several shop owners also admitted that their stalls were set up without official approval.

The DMC will continue the demolition and clearance drive in phases over the coming weeks to restore order and improve urban management in Dimapur.

The administration launched multi-layered security measures for the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Sri Tegh Bahadur Ji and the International Gita Mahotsav-2025. The Kurukshetra Security Tightened for PM Modi’s Visit plan aims to ensure complete VVIP protection throughout the event.

A massive deployment of 14 IPS officers, 54 DSPs and nearly 5,000 police personnel has strengthened the security grid. Teams are active in day and night shifts across the event venues, the Mahotsav complex and the entire route of the Prime Minister. Moreover, police units now monitor all sensitive points to manage crowds and traffic smoothly.

DGP OP Singh personally reviewed the preparations and instructed officers to maintain absolute vigilance. He said police forces would cover every inch of the PM’s movement route. High-resolution CCTVs, surveillance systems and fully equipped control rooms support real-time monitoring.

Additionally, the district has enforced a strict ban on drones and gliders. SP Nitish Agarwal said no organisation or individual would receive permission to operate such devices.

Senior officers, including DGP OP Singh and ADGP Sanjay Kumar, also inspected Jyotisar and Purushottampura Bagh. They reviewed security deployment, traffic flow and logistics to ensure full readiness for the Prime Minister’s visit.

Smart Surveillance Takes Over Sri Anandpur Sahib as the district police activate an advanced, technology-driven security grid for the historic Gurpurab celebrations. The first paragraph repeats the key phrase and sets the tone for the event.

Rupnagar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the security plan uses modern tools to manage the massive inflow of devotees for the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He said the city now runs a central command centre that controls monitoring and coordination across Sri Anandpur Sahib. The hub links all digital systems through a single platform.

The police have installed 300 AI-enabled facial recognition cameras, 10 PTZ cameras for dynamic tracking and 25 ANPR cameras at all entry and exit points. Seven drone teams fly continuous aerial rounds to strengthen the digital shield.

The holy city has been divided into 25 security sectors. Each sector runs its own help desk and sub-control room. All units send real-time video and intelligence to the main command centre.

For traffic and crowd movement, the police worked with IIT Ropar to add real-time digital mapping of all parking areas. The system shows live occupancy and guides devotees to avoid congestion. Shuttle buses run day and night to connect parking zones, venues and tent cities. SSP Khurana said officers will work with sensitivity and devotion throughout the event.

The Telangana government has approved the construction of six new pedestrian skywalks in Hyderabad to reduce traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety. The proposed locations include Madin, BHEL, Afzalgunj, JNTU, Miyapur Tea Junction, and Laxmikapool Petrol Bank.

Existing skywalks in Uppal are already operational, and construction at Mehdipatnam and Secunderabad is underway. Authorities aim to prioritize safety and reduce accidents by providing pedestrians with dedicated crossings at busy city intersections.

HMDA has been tasked with preparing proposals for the new skywalks. The government emphasized that Hyderabad’s roads, crowded from early morning to late night, pose challenges for pedestrians, especially during heavy rainfall or peak traffic hours.

Additionally, studies conducted earlier highlighted 23 key areas requiring skywalks. Secunderabad railway station will have a skywalk linking bus stands, metro stations, and other transport hubs. The state plans to implement the six new skywalks first, with future expansion based on traffic needs and public convenience.
