Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said nearly one-third of the work has already been completed. Chabimura is famous for its ancient rock carvings, including the towering Durga relief on steep cliff faces. Located along the Gomati River, it is often called the “Mini Amazon of Tripura.” Tourists visit the site for boat rides, trekking, birdwatching, and to explore its cultural significance.

The makeover includes eco-friendly log huts, landscaped walking paths, a children’s play area, and a new cafeteria. These additions will make the site more accessible and enjoyable for families and nature enthusiasts. Officials plan to finish most work by October and open the upgraded site to the public by December.

The project is part of Tripura’s larger initiative to boost sustainable tourism, generate jobs for local communities, and strengthen businesses linked to travel and hospitality. Authorities believe that upgrading Chabimura will attract more visitors, increase local income, and position Tripura as a leading eco-tourism destination in India.
