US President Donald Trump on Friday signed a major executive order removing tariffs on a wide range of essential commodities, including beef, coffee, tropical fruits, tea, cocoa and several agricultural products. The move comes amid rising public frustration over inflation and soaring grocery prices across the United States.

The decision follows significant Democratic gains in recent off-year elections in Virginia and New Jersey, where economic concerns dominated voter sentiment. Analysts say the electoral setback served as a clear signal that Americans are feeling the strain of high living costs, prompting the administration to take corrective action.

Earlier this year, Trump imposed tariffs on several countries, arguing that the duties would not affect domestic prices. However, data and market responses suggested otherwise. Beef prices, in particular, surged sharply, and tariffs on Brazil — one of the largest exporters — were widely blamed for the spike. Acknowledging these pressures, Trump had recently hinted at easing trade restrictions to stabilise the market.

Under the new order, tariffs are removed from commodities such as bananas, oranges, tomatoes, fruit juices, spices and certain fertilisers — many of which are not produced domestically. Economists argue that reducing import taxes on such items will directly benefit consumers by lowering retail prices.

The policy shift coincides with new trade agreements with Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador and Argentina aimed at reducing import taxes on agricultural goods. Trump also indicated earlier this week that coffee tariffs were likely to be lowered as part of a broader push to boost imports and ease inflation.

While Trump continues to defend his economic strategy, insisting that his policies have strengthened key sectors, Americans continue to face rising costs for essentials like food, electricity and housing. The latest tariff rollback is expected to offer some relief as the administration tries to address growing economic discontent.

Company director P.C. Doraswamy met IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh at the Secretariat on Monday to explain the crisis. He said Trump-era tariffs had severely reduced the company’s export income and affected the textile industry nationwide. Doraswamy requested state support to protect jobs and revive production.

Minister Lokesh responded positively and assured immediate help. He said the government would assist Brandix and other textile units facing similar issues. Lokesh stressed that Andhra Pradesh aims to become a key export hub and would protect industries hit by global trade policies.

The minister also said he would discuss the issue with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for central assistance. As part of temporary relief, the state will launch short-term measures to ease financial strain on exporters.

Officials said Brandix is one of the largest employment providers in the state. Global uncertainty, strong central bank purchases, and expected rate cuts are driving demand.

Experts say declining trust in fiat currencies and sustained ETF buying will maintain the gold price surge 2025. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), December gold futures reached ₹1,22,284 per 10 grams this week, supported by geopolitical tensions and US Federal Reserve rate cut expectations.

A weaker US dollar is making gold more attractive to international investors. On Monday, MCX Gold December futures rose 1.62% to ₹1,23,313 per 10 grams, while MCX Silver December futures increased 3.44% to ₹1,51,577 per kg.

Globally, spot gold touched $4,060 per ounce, marking its eighth consecutive weekly gain. The surge follows renewed US-China trade tensions, with China warning against new tariffs and urging a return to negotiations.

Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar said that vote chori and Donald Trump’s tariffs will dominate the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna on September 24.

He spoke to reporters at Patna airport a day earlier. Kumar explained that the party will discuss state, national, and international issues. “At CWC meetings, we pass resolutions after detailed talks. Tomorrow, vote chori and the tariffs imposed by President Trump will be key points,” he said.

This meeting breaks the pattern of holding sessions in Delhi. Top leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Deepa Das Munshi, Sayeed Nasir Hussain, and Meira Kumar, will attend. Kumar rejected BJP’s charge that choosing Patna was a tactic before assembly polls. He reminded them that earlier meetings had also taken place in states like Gujarat.

BJP leaders mocked the Congress decision. Shahnawaz Hussain said the party always fails in Delhi and will meet the same fate in Bihar. Chirag Paswan called it a pressure tactic.

RJD MP Sudhakar Singh disagreed. He said the meeting would send a positive message and strengthen the INDIA bloc in Bihar.

The Patna CWC meet aims to energize party workers and sharpen Congress’s campaign before the assembly elections.

Investors were cautious but optimistic as they awaited signals from the India-US trade talks being held in New Delhi.

According to forex traders, uneven capital flows and concerns arising from US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies have pressured the rupee in recent weeks. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic currency opened at 88.05 per dollar and quickly strengthened to 88.04. During the session, it also touched 88.16 against the greenback.

Equity benchmarks opened slightly higher on the same day, driven by positive sentiment over progress in the trade dialogue. The Nifty 50 advanced 0.17 percent to 25,110.75 points while the BSE Sensex climbed 0.2 percent to 81,956.51 at 9:30 am.

Market participants noted that 13 out of 16 major sectors gained, though the improvements remained modest. Broader indices also showed strength, with mid-cap shares adding 0.2 percent and small-cap counters gaining 0.5 percent. The overall outlook remained tied to outcomes of the trade talks and the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest rate decision.

India is facing a major trade challenge after the United States under President Donald Trump slapped 50% tariffs on several key exports, including textiles, jewelry, seafood, and carpets. While the move threatens millions of workers in labor-intensive industries, analysts believe India is better positioned than many expect to withstand the pressure.

First, India’s economy is driven mainly by domestic consumption. With a massive middle class and rising rural demand, internal spending cushions the shock from export losses.

Second, India has a broad export portfolio. Pharmaceuticals, IT services, and electronics remain unaffected by the U.S. duties, ensuring steady inflows from global markets.

Third, businesses are already seeking new destinations for exports, with Europe, the Gulf, and Southeast Asia emerging as strong alternatives to the American market.

Fourth, India’s macroeconomic fundamentals are sound. International rating agencies continue to project strong growth and manageable external debt, showing confidence in the country’s stability.

Finally, the government has rolled out policy responses, including financial support for exporters, tax adjustments, and campaigns to encourage citizens to buy India-made goods.

Together, these factors make India resilient and capable of converting this tariff challenge into an opportunity for reform and self-reliance.

President Donald Trump announced that the United States will allow nearly 600,000 Chinese students to study in American universities, even as his administration maintains a tough stance on international students. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump emphasized the “very important relationship” between Washington and Beijing, suggesting a softer tone compared to his earlier “America First” approach.

This move comes while the White House pressures China over trade and rare earth supplies. Trump warned Beijing of 200% tariffs if it restricts US access to rare earth magnets. Yet, he assured that trade disputes would not block Chinese students from pursuing higher education in America.

The decision sparked outrage among Trump’s core MAGA base. Conservative activist Laura Loomer accused Chinese students of being “CCP spies,” while Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed they would “replace American students’ opportunities.” Critics said the move betrayed the America First policy.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick defended the President, stating that without Chinese students in US universities, the bottom 15% of colleges could collapse financially. The announcement marks a sharp contrast to the administration’s earlier visa crackdown, where officials pledged stricter scrutiny of Chinese applicants in sensitive fields.
