On Saturday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) confirmed that it took immediate note of the case after police registered an FIR. The complaint includes allegations of sexual assault by a professor and ragging by fellow students at a government degree college in Dharamshala.

Soon after the matter surfaced, the UGC’s anti-ragging helpline registered a suo motu complaint. In addition, the commission formed a Fact-Finding Committee to examine the incident in detail.

Meanwhile, local police have begun a parallel investigation. Officers are questioning those named in the complaint and gathering evidence to fix responsibility.

An official statement said, “A police inquiry is underway, and UGC has constituted a Fact-Finding Committee. The commission will ensure strict action. The culprits will not be spared.”

UGC takes cognizance of Dharamshala student death at a time when repeated cases highlight gaps in campus safety. Therefore, the commission reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on ragging and sexual harassment.

Moreover, the UGC stressed that colleges must enforce safety norms without delay. It also urged institutions to strengthen grievance redressal systems.

The incident has renewed demands for accountability and stronger safeguards for students across the country.
