The UN Security Council Gaza Plan debate is entering a decisive stage as the Council prepares to vote on November 17. The United States wants quick approval for President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, and Washington is pushing hard to build consensus within the 15-member body. Several Arab and Muslim-majority nations, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, also support a swift vote. Their backing adds strong regional weight to the discussion. The UN Security Council Gaza Plan vote now stands at the centre of intense diplomatic activity.

The resolution aims to endorse the ceasefire that ended the two-year war between Israel and Hamas. U.S. officials say the plan offers a clear framework for long-term stability and reconstruction in Gaza. They argue that the region needs a structured roadmap after years of conflict and humanitarian suffering.

Negotiations accelerated last week when Washington circulated a draft text. Diplomats say the discussions moved quickly as nations recognised the urgency of maintaining the current calm. Many countries want the Council to guide the next steps, especially on aid access, displaced families, and monitoring mechanisms.

Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have urged the Council to act without delay. They believe the vote could strengthen regional cooperation and reinforce the ceasefire.

The world now watches to see whether the Council can unite behind the proposal and open a new phase in Gaza’s recovery.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said this aid reflects India’s role as a reliable “First Responder” to the Global South.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India remains committed to assisting partner nations in times of crisis. He highlighted that the consignment will help Timor-Leste combat a recent rabies outbreak, reinforcing India’s commitment to global health cooperation and solidarity.

India and Timor-Leste share long-standing ties rooted in democracy and diversity. India was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Timor-Leste after its independence in 2002. Recently, Timor-Leste became the 11th member of ASEAN, marking a historic step in regional integration and cooperation.

President Droupadi Murmu earlier reaffirmed India’s partnership with Timor-Leste, promising collaboration in technology, agriculture, and healthcare. Timor-Leste’s leadership expressed gratitude for India’s support and backed India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, strengthening their growing diplomatic bond.

The ministers reiterated the need for comprehensive United Nations reform, including expansion of the Security Council to reflect 21st-century geopolitical realities.

Jaishankar updated on X, noting the meeting assessed the current Inter-Governmental Negotiation (IGN) process. The G4 nations emphasized greater representation for developing countries to make the Security Council more inclusive and effective.

On the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Jaishankar held bilateral talks with ministers from Australia, Egypt, and Malaysia. He also highlighted global counter-terrorism efforts, stating that actions against terrorism contribute to international peace and development.

He criticised selective sanctions imposed on nations under the pretext of pressuring Russia during the Ukraine war. Jaishankar warned that such measures disrupt supply chains, logistics, and economic access, creating additional pressures on countries like India.

China and Pakistan have jointly submitted a bid to the United Nations Security Council, urging the designation of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its wing, the “Majeed Brigade,” as terrorist organizations. The two countries cited ongoing attacks from these groups, which are allegedly operating from Afghanistan’s safe havens, and called for action to curb their activities.

Both China and Pakistan emphasized that the BLA and Majeed Brigade have been involved in several high-profile incidents , including the Karachi Airport attack and the Zafar train hijacking, linking them to terrorist operations.

The United States had already recognized these groups as foreign terrorist organizations last month. The joint bid by China and Pakistan adds momentum to international efforts to address the growing threat posed by the BLA and its affiliates in the region.
