The Health Ministry described the achievement as a major milestone for India’s public health system. Officials said the certification reflects the government’s commitment to quality, patient safety, and equitable healthcare access, especially for poor and vulnerable populations.

The NQAS programme began in 2015 with only 10 certified facilities, initially covering district hospitals. The framework later expanded to include sub-district hospitals, community health centres, Ayushman Arogya Mandir primary health centres, urban PHCs, and sub-health centres to ensure quality at all levels.

Virtual assessments helped accelerate certifications across the country. Certified facilities rose from 6,506 in December 2023 to 22,786 in December 2024 and further to 50,373 by December 2025. The total includes 48,663 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 1,710 secondary care facilities. The expansion supports India’s Universal Health Coverage goals under the National Health Policy 2017.

The scheme offers health coverage of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation to about 55 crore beneficiaries. Currently, 12.37 crore families from India’s bottom 40 per cent population are covered under the programme.

Till June, more than 9.84 crore hospital admissions worth over Rs. 1.40 lakh crore have been authorised. A total of 31,466 hospitals have been empanelled, including 14,194 private hospitals. Over 41 crore Ayushman Cards have been issued nationwide.

Nadda highlighted that the initiative has reduced out-of-pocket expenses, strengthened social security, and provided dignified access to healthcare. He emphasised that Ayushman Bharat reflects PM Narendra Modi’s vision and the government’s commitment to building a healthier India, ensuring no citizen is left behind, regardless of income or geography.
