Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman opened the flow and ensured that farmers receive steady water throughout the season. The State government approved water supply for 2,200 acres in 11 Villupuram villages and 1,000 acres in five Puducherry villages.

Officials fixed the flow at a maximum of 53 cusecs. The release will continue for 135 days, giving farmers a dependable water source for paddy, sugarcane, and other seasonal crops. The administration wants to help farmers begin cultivation on time and improve yield quality.

Farmers in both regions welcomed the move. Many said timely water supply will reduce crop stress and help them plan for better harvests. Local authorities will monitor the flow and ensure villages receive equitable distribution.

With this cycle now underway, the irrigation plan is expected to boost agricultural output and strengthen rural livelihoods in Villupuram and Puducherry.
