According to officials, Fazilka arms smuggling was carried out by local networks with direct links to Pakistan. Police arrested two smugglers, Gurwinder Singh alias Gindu from Jhok Dipolana village and Sona Singh from Mahatam Nagar village. They were caught near Theh Qalandar village on the Fazilka-Ferozepur highway with the weapons consignment.

Investigations revealed that the duo used flood water routes to sneak in the arms. During questioning, they confessed to being involved in smuggling operations for some time. Security agencies fear more such attempts may follow, given the rising water levels aiding illegal cross-border movement.

This recovery underlines the urgent need for stricter surveillance in Fazilka sector to curb arms smuggling and safeguard Punjab’s border security.
