The Indiramma Indlu Second Phase will soon begin in Telangana, bringing new hope for thousands of poor families waiting for their own homes. The state government plans to launch the Indiramma Indlu Second Phase on June 2, Telangana Formation Day.

Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the programme will begin in Adilabad district. Officials are preparing guidelines and making arrangements for the launch. The government wants to speed up construction and distribution of houses to eligible beneficiaries across the state.

Under the Indiramma Indlu scheme, the government provides financial assistance of about ₹5 lakh to help poor families build permanent houses. The scheme targets families who do not have their own houses and belong to economically weaker sections.

Officials also plan to identify government land in each constituency to build new houses. Authorities will ensure basic facilities such as drinking water, electricity, and drainage before beneficiaries move in.

The second phase is expected to benefit thousands of families and help the state move closer to the goal of housing for all.

The Survey flagged concerns over the long-term fiscal impact of such programmes.

According to the Survey, total spending on unconditional cash transfer (UCT) schemes during the 2025-26 financial year is estimated at around ₹1.7 lakh crore. Unconditional cash transfers putting State finances at risk was noted as a key challenge, especially as several States continue to expand welfare coverage.

The Survey pointed out that a large share of UCT spending targets women-centric schemes. While these programmes improve financial security and social outcomes, the report cautioned that unchecked expansion could limit States’ ability to invest in infrastructure, health, and education.

It said many States are funding cash transfers through higher borrowings or by cutting capital expenditure. This trend, the Survey noted, may weaken long-term economic growth and fiscal stability.

The Survey called for better targeting of beneficiaries and stronger monitoring of outcomes. It also suggested aligning welfare spending with revenue capacity to avoid structural fiscal stress.

Economists quoted in the report said cash transfers should complement, not replace, productive public investment. A balanced approach, the Survey concluded, is essential to protect State finances while supporting vulnerable groups.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged newly elected local representatives to work together for village development. He asked them to take public issues to senior officials for quick solutions. Later, he honoured the winning sarpanches, deputy sarpanches, and ward members in Husnabad. He also said polling in Elkathurthi and Bhimadevarapalli ended peacefully.

He noted that Gandhian village self-rule becomes possible only when problems receive immediate attention. The minister explained that the first phase of Indiramma housing had begun and that the next phase would start soon. He added that eligible families would receive 200 units of free power. Moreover, he promised new ration cards and regular fine-rice supply. He recalled that Husnabad stood as an example in plastic-free initiatives through steel bank distribution.

Ponnam said Congress secured 15 seats in Bhimadevarapalli and 11 in Elkathurthi. He reminded people about upcoming polling in several mandals this month. If Congress wins, he said development would accelerate, particularly through the completion of the Gouravelli project. He mentioned ongoing welfare schemes like Kalyana Lakshmi, free bus travel, zero-interest loans, Rythu Bharosa, and loan waivers.

He highlighted major development works in Husnabad, including an engineering college, a residential school, a four-lane road, a 250-bed hospital, and heritage projects. He also initiated steps to allocate ₹100 crore for Satavahana University. Soon, new sarpanches will receive training on village development planning.

She said farmers suffered daily and their struggles never reached Delhi.

Andhra Pradesh is extending strong support to Anganwadi workers, said Women, Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Minister G. Sandhya Rani. She stated that the coalition government has been addressing their needs one by one. She added that no one listened to Anganwadi problems during the previous government’s rule. However, the new government responded quickly and fulfilled almost all long-pending demands.

The Minister explained several key measures introduced for their welfare. The government implemented gratuity benefits and began offering financial assistance for funeral expenses of deceased Anganwadi workers. She described the decision to convert mini Anganwadi centres into main centres as a historic reform. She also said that the government allocated ₹1 lakh to each centre to upgrade basic facilities.

Furthermore, Minister Sandhya Rani announced that Anganwadi workers received new smartphones with 5G network support. This step aims to improve efficiency and transparency in centre operations. She emphasised that the current government remains highly supportive of Anganwadi workers and continues to prioritise their well-being.

The Minister urged all Anganwadi workers to make full use of these opportunities and cooperate with the state administration. She assured them that more welfare programmes will be introduced in the coming months to strengthen the Anganwadi system further.

The issue of GST Rate Rationalisation has become more urgent for Karnataka as the recent GST changes reduced some of the State’s income. Officials said that GST Rate Rationalisation now pushes the government to find new ways to manage revenue while protecting essential services.

The State is studying several measures to make its spending more effective. One plan is to streamline guarantee scheme beneficiaries. Only eligible people may continue to receive support so that leakages come down and welfare programmes work better.

Karnataka is also looking at removing old schemes that no longer give meaningful results. By ending such programmes, the government can shift funds to projects that create higher impact.

Another idea under review is improving expenditure on human resources. Departments may review their staff structure, cut non-essential posts, and increase administrative efficiency. These steps aim to reduce financial pressure without disturbing key public services.

Senior officials said discussions are still going on. Final decisions will be taken after considering long-term financial stability. More clarity is expected once the winter session ends.

Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin expressed strong confidence about the DMK’s prospects in the 2026 assembly election. He said the party could secure at least 2.5 crore votes due to the government’s welfare initiatives. During a video conference with district secretaries, he noted that 1.86 crore people benefited directly from the schemes. Stalin added that neutral voters now view the party more positively.

The chief minister compared the current support with the 2021 election, when the DMK secured 2.09 crore votes. He said the combination of beneficiaries, committed cadres, and neutral voters would create a stronger vote base. Stalin asked party leaders to stay alert despite favourable conditions. He warned that opposition parties may use central agencies and misinformation campaigns.

He urged district functionaries to ensure that eligible voters remain on the electoral rolls. Stalin said the party faced difficulty during the special intensive revision process but must continue its efforts. He stressed the importance of verifying every booth and reaching every household.

Stalin also encouraged cadres to participate in the “My Booth, Victorious Booth” meetings. He said he would take part in the meeting at his Teynampet booth. He told party workers to ensure no eligible voter is excluded.

Several welfare schemes in Maharashtra are facing delays as the state government continues monthly cash transfers under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. The scheme, which provides Rs 1,500 per month to women, has been credited with bolstering support for the ruling alliance of BJP, Shinde Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

Many smaller schemes, including subsidised ration kits under Anandacha Shidha and one-time payments under Vayoshree Yojana for senior citizens, have been postponed. Residents across districts like Sangli, Nashik, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Kolhapur report frustration over the slowdown in these benefits.

Smita Patil from Sangli said she relied on cheap ration kits for festival preparations. “Last year, I saved money because of the subsidised kits. This year, the government said there were no funds,” she said. In Nashik’s Dindori block, senior citizens like Nandkumar Kshirsagar said delays in Vayoshree payments forced families to work for survival.

Even beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin expressed dissatisfaction. Officials have stopped payments to women who did not link bank accounts with Aadhaar or submit required documents. Pushpa Patil from Solapur said, “Women feel fooled. The government gave money in one hand and took it away through rising costs.”

Opposition leaders, such as Rohit Pawar of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, have highlighted the funding gaps in their campaigns. However, political analysts say voter anger may not fully translate into electoral losses for the ruling alliance. Some voters still support the parties because a portion of the schemes, like Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, eventually reaches beneficiaries.

As Maharashtra approaches civic body elections, the financial strain of Ladki Bahin is reshaping welfare distribution, but its political impact remains uncertain.
