Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised ISKCON for spreading Sanatan Dharma worldwide and serving humanity through relief and welfare work. He spoke at the ISKCON headquarters in Mayapur, West Bengal, during celebrations marking the 152nd birth anniversary of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur.

Shah told devotees he visited Mayapur as a follower of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, not as a Union minister. He said the spiritual centre inspired him for years and he finally fulfilled his long-held wish to come.

He highlighted Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur’s role in shaping Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, whose efforts later built the global ISKCON movement. Shah said their combined life work carried Indian spiritual values to every continent.

Recalling his travels as BJP president and Union minister, Shah said he saw ISKCON’s presence across India. He noted that ISKCON’s editions of the Bhagavad Gita reach students, professionals, and elders alike.

Shah also praised the organisation’s humanitarian role. He said ISKCON runs food distribution drives, supports disaster relief, and reaches affected areas quickly. He added that the group provides healthcare, education, and cultural engagement for youth through Indian festivals.

The address blended devotion with public service, highlighting ISKCON’s expanding role in spiritual outreach and social responsibility across world.

A fresh tiger attack has been reported from the Sundarbans region of West Bengal, once again highlighting the dangers faced by locals who depend on forest resources. A woman was critically injured after a tiger attacked her while she was collecting crabs near Kulas Island in the Sundarbans forest area.

The injured woman has been identified as Shankari Nayak. According to local sources, she had entered the forest early Tuesday morning along with five others in a small boat to collect crabs. The area is known for frequent tiger movement, yet many residents enter it daily to earn their livelihood.

While collecting crabs near a creek close to Kulas Island, a tiger suddenly emerged from the mangroves and attacked Shankari Nayak. She suffered severe injuries during the attack. The other members of the group raised an alarm and shouted, which forced the tiger to retreat, saving her life.

After the incident, the injured woman was rushed to Patharpratima Rural Hospital for initial treatment. As her condition worsened, doctors referred her to Kakdwip Sub-Divisional Hospital. She is currently undergoing treatment, and her condition remains critical.

Repeated tiger attacks in the Sundarbans have raised serious concerns about wildlife management and human safety. Local residents have urged authorities to strengthen safety measures to protect people who depend on fishing and crab collection for survival.

MP Kaushlendra Kumar said that Muslims have every right to build the Babri Masjid in Bengal, and no one should stop them. He stressed that India’s Constitution gives all citizens the freedom to follow their religion and live with dignity.

He explained that people know Babur only from books, and today’s issues matter more. Kumar said that modern India stands on equality and rights for all communities.

While speaking to reporters in Bihar Sharif, he called India a strong democracy. He said that people from many castes and religions live together, and this unity is the strength of the country. If the local people want to build a mosque, they can do so without fear.

Kumar also responded to a direct question about the mosque’s construction. He said that building it is completely right and the community should go ahead. He added that no group should object to a peaceful religious activity.

He also referred to Humayun Kabir, who laid a foundation stone for the mosque in Murshidabad. Kabir made the announcement in November and performed the ceremony on December 6, after which the TMC removed him from the party.

The PUBG style murder case from Bihar’s Katihar district has shocked people across India. The incident involved a group of minor boys who killed their friend after a dispute. The phrase PUBG style murder case became a major topic because the attackers copied the violent style shown in the game.

Police said the boys argued over a PUBG game and a girl. After the fight, the accused hung their friend upside down and stabbed him, similar to the game’s attack style. They later threw his body into a well. The deceased and the accused were all from West Bengal.

Investigators found that the crime was planned. Forensic teams examined the spot and confirmed the method used matched the “PUBG-style killing.” One minor has been caught, while others are still missing. The victim’s family had filed a missing report earlier in West Bengal. Both Bihar and West Bengal police are now working together on this PUBG style murder case.

Locals are shocked that minors carried out such a brutal act inspired by a mobile game. Police are continuing raids to arrest the remaining juveniles.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has raised strong concerns over a major security breach at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal and has directed Kolkata Police to upgrade security arrangements without delay. In a letter issued on Wednesday, November 26, the Commission described the current security measures as “inadequate” to prevent such incidents and warned that the safety of senior officers—including the CEO, Additional and Joint CEOs, Deputy CEOs, and other staff—may be at risk.

The breach occurred on Monday, November 24, prompting the ECI to demand immediate corrective steps. The Commission instructed Kolkata Police to ensure comprehensive protection at the CEO office, at officers’ residences, and along their travel routes. It further noted that the ongoing SIR (Systematic Information Revision) process and the approaching 2026 Assembly elections make enhanced security crucial.

The ECI also directed the police to revise and upgrade the security classification for all officials connected to the electoral process. Stressing that such incidents must not recur, the Commission asked for an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 48 hours.

Copies of the communication were forwarded to the West Bengal C

Massive discrepancies have surfaced in the 2002 voter list in Mayapur, West Bengal, where many devotees of ISKCON cast their votes at the Sri Sri Thakur Bhaktivinod Lower Primary School in the Nabadwip Assembly constituency. The anomaly involved the names of parents being replaced with the names of their spiritual gurus.

Sharadwati Chowdhury, the Sub-Divisional Officer, clarified that a parent’s name must always be mentioned in the voter list. “No new entries can be made using the name of a spiritual master. Whatever was recorded in previous identity documents must be reflected consistently. Only the block election roll officer can confirm whether these names were corrected in the current voter list,” she said.

However, Manish Gupta, Block Development Officer of Nabadwip, explained that monks and devotees from various monasteries sometimes have identity documents listing their spiritual gurus as guardians. “Many renounce worldly life after taking monastic vows and choose their spiritual guru as their guardian. In such cases, identity documents are created using the spiritual father’s name. Later, some may apply for documents using their biological parent’s name, which can create discrepancies,” Gupta added.

He further emphasized that it is impossible to determine their current legal status without reviewing the latest identity documents. Similar cases have been reported in the past where initial identity documents bore the name of a spiritual guru, and subsequent documents reflected the individual’s or parent’s name.

Election authorities in Mayapur are now reviewing the voter list to ensure compliance with official norms and avoid future discrepancies.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reacted strongly to the gang-rape of a medical student in Durgapur. She said girls should avoid going out at night and asked police to take strict action against the accused. Speaking at Kolkata Airport, she reminded that the state maintains a zero-tolerance policy against such crimes.

Banerjee added that private colleges must ensure the safety of their students. She urged young women, especially those living in hostels, to remain cautious while moving outside at night. “Everyone is free to go anywhere, but safety must come first,” she said, stressing that no culprit will be spared.

In West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out surprise raids on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Jiban Krishna Saha’s residence in connection with the ongoing teacher recruitment scam. The case has already shaken state politics, and Saturday’s events added a dramatic twist.

According to officials, Saha tried to flee when the ED team arrived. He jumped from the first floor of his house and attempted to scale the boundary wall. However, the officers posted outside quickly stopped him and took him into custody. In the process, the MLA allegedly threw one of his mobile phones into a nearby pond. The ED later recovered two more phones and sent them for forensic analysis.

Raids were also conducted at the houses of Saha’s in-laws in Raghunathganj. The agency confirmed that Saha is currently under interrogation and will soon be produced before a special ED court in Kolkata.

The teacher recruitment scam dates back to 2016, when the state government held an exam for 24,650 vacancies in aided schools. Over 23 lakh candidates appeared, but 25,753 appointment letters were issued, sparking allegations of large-scale irregularities. Both ED and CBI are probing the case, which continues to rock West Bengal politics.
