Gill enforced the follow-on after India took a 270-run lead. He said even with a larger lead, taking six or seven wickets on day five could have been tough. Additionally, he highlighted the need to groom players like Nitish Kumar Reddy for future overseas challenges rather than putting immediate pressure on them.

On his batting approach at number four, Gill said he always prioritizes the team’s victory. “Batting is about helping the team win,” he added. Looking ahead, he expressed excitement for his first assignment as ODI captain during India’s Australia tour starting October 19.

Meanwhile, West Indies captain Roston Chase appreciated his team’s fightback. Centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope helped them score 390 in the second innings. Chase said the match will boost confidence and prepare the team for upcoming series.

Captain Roston Chase believes that confidence and strong starts are key to improving batting performance. He emphasised that scoring a big fifty or hundred could boost team morale and help challenge the Indian bowlers effectively in New Delhi.

Chase has sought guidance from legends like Lara, Sir Viv Richards, and Sir Richie Richardson. They advised him to maintain belief in the team’s potential and instill a positive mindset to overcome the current slump in performance.

Reflecting on his own form, Chase stressed the importance of focus, playing each ball on merit, and building innings over extended periods. He reiterated his commitment to West Indies red-ball cricket, setting aside franchise opportunities, and expressed determination to lead the team with hunger and dedication.
