A 54-year-old resident of J.P. Nagar in Mysuru has lost ₹1.77 crore in an online trading fraud. The scam was executed through a fake trading application, Mysuru City Police said. The victim was lured through a WhatsApp group claiming links to a U.S.-based investment management firm.

Police said the victim transferred money through RTGS to several bank accounts by December 20, 2025. The accounts were linked to local companies. The funds appeared as “Top Up Capital” in the trading app. The app displayed unusually high profits, which built trust in the scheme.

When the victim attempted to withdraw the money, fraudsters demanded capital gains tax payments. The tax amount was asked to be sent to private bank accounts. At this stage, the victim realised the fraud and approached the police.

Investigators said the WhatsApp group promised share market training and extraordinary returns. Members were later introduced to a woman named Meera, posing as a company representative. Police warned citizens against fake investment offers on social media. People were advised to verify financial services through official channels. Cyber frauds should be reported to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

Cybercriminals continue to expand their deceptive tactics across Telangana. They lure people with promises of easy money and trap unsuspecting victims. Recently, hackers targeted the WhatsApp number of Manikonda Vedakumar, Chairman of the Forum for Better Hyderabad and Telangana Resource Centre. They contacted his saved numbers and claimed that he urgently needed money.

The fraudsters sent messages saying his usual UPI number was not working. They asked people to transfer ₹60,000 through Google Pay or PhonePe to the number 6202756958. However, one alert individual quickly sensed the scam. He took a screenshot and circulated it among others, which helped warn many people. This timely action prevented financial losses.

Cyber gangs have already created fear with OTP scams and fake digital arrest threats. Now, they are targeting WhatsApp accounts of officials and political leaders. Moreover, their methods are becoming more advanced and unpredictable. Experts say people must verify any emergency payment request before responding.

In recent weeks, several media WhatsApp groups linked to Telangana cabinet ministers faced similar hacking attempts. Therefore, cybersecurity teams urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious messages immediately. Awareness remains the strongest defence against these rising cyber crimes.

In a surprising Bihar cyber fraud case, two men from Vaishali were arrested for trying to cheat Khagaria SP Rakesh Kumar. This Bihar cyber fraud case began when the criminals sent WhatsApp messages pretending to be the DGP and demanded money. Police acted fast and formed a special team to investigate the matter.

During the probe, the team found that the scammer’s mobile phone and email were linked to his bank account. The arrested men, Madhukant Kumar and Nikhil Kumar, admitted that they were part of a larger gang. They said the gang used fake identities to get SIM cards and open bank accounts. These SIM cards were later sold and used for cyber crimes.

Police recovered two mobile phones, two passbooks, two Aadhaar cards, one PAN card, and two SIM cards. Raids are still going on to catch the remaining gang members. The case has raised serious concerns about rising cyber crimes in Bihar and the methods used by fraudsters to trick even senior officials.
