Kandhamal continues to feel a deep chill as the district remains much colder than other areas. Since early November, temperatures have frequently dropped below 15°C, and on many days they even came close to 10°C. On Monday, residents woke up to cloudy skies and thick fog. Visibility stayed near zero, and sunlight did not appear until after 8 a.m. This harsh weather affected daily life, slowed traffic, and made morning travel difficult.

Even with the biting cold, Kandhamal continues to draw tourists who enjoy its unique winter experience. Many visitors come to see the fog-covered valleys and the fresh mountain air.

The Regional Met Department expects another dip in temperature after two days. Although Cyclone Ditwah did not hit Odisha directly, light rainfall may occur in Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada. The state now prepares for changing conditions as winter continues to unfold.

The first system entered the Bay from the Malacca Strait and strengthened into a deep depression on Tuesday night. It continues to move west-northwest while gathering more intensity. Meteorologists say the system is expanding as it travels over the central Bay, though its exact landfall path still needs clarity.

A second circulation has also formed near Sri Lanka in the southwest Bay. This system is moving north-northwest and will likely develop into a depression within the next 24 hours. It too is growing stronger, but its current track does not head toward Odisha.

IMD officials continue to monitor both systems closely. Despite the rising activity over the ocean, forecasts repeatedly show that Odisha will stay outside the danger zone. The state may, however, experience a dip in night temperatures as winter conditions return.

IMD noted that the new system may strengthen as it moves across the sea. However, the department has not confirmed whether it could turn into a cyclone or which coastal districts might face strong winds or rainfall.

Forecasts suggest that the system will track west–northwest after formation. It may become a depression over the central south Bay of Bengal by November 24. Meteorologists expect further intensification over the next 48 hours as it moves into deeper waters, although IMD has not issued any local advisory yet.

Meanwhile, Odisha’s cold weather has eased slightly. Minimum temperatures may rise by 2 to 3°C across many districts in the next three days. Earlier, Jharsuguda touched 11°C and G. Udayagiri dropped to 5.4°C, marking some of the coldest points this season.

Dense fog continues in many areas, affecting morning travel. IMD is likely to give clearer guidance after the system forms and its path becomes more predictable over the next 72–96 hours.
