Historically, Congress, Janata Dal, and RJD have alternated control of the seat. RJD has won five times, maintaining a strong Yadav base. The NDA hopes to consolidate Kurmi and EBC support to challenge the RJD’s hold. The constituency lies near Ara district and the Son River. After the 2008 delimitation, parts of Koilwar and Gadhani were added. Once a Congress stronghold, the party lost relevance here after 1980. Leaders like Sonadhari Singh, Bijendra Yadav, and Rameshwar Prasad shaped the early contests.

From the 1990s, the Sandesh Assembly seat became a bastion for RJD and Lalu Yadav’s influence. Still, BJP, CPI(ML), and independents caused upsets. BJP’s Sanjay Singh Tiger won in 2010, but RJD regained ground in 2015 and 2020 with Arun Kumar and Kiran Devi.

Today, NDA is working hard to break RJD’s hold by targeting upper caste and Yadav voters. Complaints of one-family dominance and lack of development are major voter concerns. With Prashant Kishor’s Jansuraj Party also entering, the upcoming election promises a triangular contest, making Sandesh one of Bihar’s most watched constituencies.
