Chandigarh endured a difficult opening day against Tamil Nadu in an Elite Group match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy. The match is being played at Shivamogga in Karnataka.
Chandigarh won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision backfired as the team collapsed for just 70 runs. Ishant Rawat top-scored with 20 runs, while the rest of the batting line-up struggled to handle disciplined bowling.
Tamil Nadu bowlers dominated the session. P.C. Raja delivered an impressive spell, claiming four wickets for 20 runs. Rishi Kannan provided strong support with three wickets for 15 runs. Chandigarh failed to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals.
In reply, Tamil Nadu asserted control with a strong batting display. The team reached 267 for four wickets by stumps. This gave them a commanding first-innings lead of 197 runs.
Dhanvant Anamangadanch played a superb knock for Tamil Nadu. He scored a brilliant 130 runs and anchored the innings. His effort steadied the side after early wickets and put pressure back on Chandigarh’s bowlers.
With a massive lead already secured, Tamil Nadu remains firmly in control of the match. Chandigarh will need a strong bowling performance on the second day to stay competitive.
