TDB Launches Inquiry After Honey Found Stored in Former Acid Containers
The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has launched an inquiry after honey meant for temple rituals was reportedly supplied in containers previously used for storing acid. Officials confirmed that the stock had passed inspection by the Food Safety Laboratory at Pampa and clarified that the honey is used exclusively for performing the Ashtabhishekam ritual, not for consumption by devotees.
The issue came to light after workers raised concerns about the reused containers, prompting the TDB to examine possible lapses in procurement and quality control. Authorities stated that strict guidelines are in place for handling ritual materials and that any breach will be addressed with appropriate corrective measures.
The board has sought a detailed report from the supplier and internal departments to ensure such mistakes do not recur. The incident has sparked criticism from devotees and raised questions about safety and oversight in temple administration.
