Ramchander Rao, Telangana state chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was placed under house arrest to prevent him from visiting the “tense” area of Kamareddy. Authorities said the measure was taken to maintain law and order and avoid possible disturbances.
Rao reportedly planned to travel to Kamareddy and later to Banswara, but police stopped him as a precautionary step. The state administration said his movements could trigger protests or clashes, so they acted to ensure public safety.
BJP leaders criticized the decision, saying it restricts the party chief’s democratic right to visit areas and meet people. Officials, however, maintained that the action was necessary given the sensitive situation.
The situation in Kamareddy remains tense, and local authorities are closely monitoring developments to prevent any unrest or violence.
