Following the Supreme Court setback on the 42% BC reservation issue, the Telangana government is gearing up for a crucial Cabinet meeting on October 23. Sources indicate that several ministers have advised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to proceed with party-based implementation of 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections, despite the court’s ruling.
The proposal is expected to be discussed in detail during the TPCC Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting on October 19, where a final decision will be taken. Based on the outcome, the Cabinet is likely to formally announce the decision during its October 23 session.
The move, if approved, would demonstrate the government’s political commitment to BC representation, while also testing the legal and administrative flexibility available to implement it.
