Telangana Braces for Sharp Temperature Drop Today

Telangana cold wave alert issued as temperatures drop sharply. IMD forecasts fog, mist and below-normal temperatures in several districts.

Telangana is preparing for cold wave conditions today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for seven districts. The agency expects minimum temperatures to fall 3 to 4°C below normal over the next two days. Many areas already recorded sharp drops during early morning hours.

Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy are under alert. IMD said fog and mist may cover these regions during morning hours. The agency expects minimum temperatures around 13°C and maximum temperatures near 31°C. Officials also reported hazy conditions at night due to falling temperatures.

A recent bulletin noted that minimum temperatures dipped nearly 5°C below normal on Friday. The Telangana Development Planning Society released new data showing 12 districts saw temperatures under 10°C between 7 and 8 December. Kohir in Sangareddy recorded 7.2°C, the lowest in the state, reflecting the intensity of the cold spell.

IMD linked the change to a trough over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The agency predicts cold wave conditions across central, east, and southern India until 12 December. Northwest and west India will also see similar conditions from 10 December, with the cold likely to persist for two days.
