Telangana Faces Shortage of Drug Inspectors, DCA Requests 100 More
The Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA) has requested the recruitment of 100 additional drug inspectors, citing an urgent need to strengthen enforcement as the current workforce is insufficient to manage the regulatory load. At present, only 65 to 70 drug inspectors are responsible for overseeing nearly 50,000 regulated units across the State, officials said on Tuesday.
Authorities highlighted that the existing manpower is overstretched, leading to challenges in monitoring compliance, inspecting manufacturing and retail units, and preventing the circulation of substandard or illegal drugs. The DCA emphasised that additional personnel are essential to ensure proper enforcement of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and related regulations, safeguard public health, and maintain quality standards.
Officials also stressed the importance of timely recruitment and training of new inspectors to address gaps in supervision, improve regulatory efficiency, and enhance the overall capacity of the DCA to respond effectively to complaints, inspections, and enforcement actions across Telangana.
