Telangana HC Summons Warangal Municipal Commissioner Over 14-Year Silence on Notice
The Telangana High Court has summoned the Warangal Municipal Commissioner for a personal appearance after authorities failed to respond to a court notice issued 14 years ago. The court strongly criticised the prolonged inaction, stating, “This approach is deprecated,” while hearing a writ petition related to a local environmental dispute.
The petition challenges the decision to raise the height of the weir (alugu) of ‘Chinna Waddepalli Cheruvu’, a local water body, to its maximum level — a move residents allege could lead to flooding and ecological imbalance.
Expressing frustration over the administration’s silence since 2009, the court noted that such indifference undermines the judicial process and public accountability. The commissioner has now been directed to appear in person at the next hearing to explain the inaction.
The case underscores the importance of timely administrative response in matters involving public interest and environmental impact.
