Telangana Housing Board Restricts Sale of LIG Flats, Allows Lease Only After Five Years
The Telangana Housing Board (THB) has issued new guidelines for Low-Income Group (LIG) flat allottees, restricting the sale of their flats and allowing the property to be leased only after a period of five years. The directive, officials said, is aimed at preventing misuse of government-subsidised housing and ensuring that flats are used primarily for residential purposes by the intended beneficiaries.
According to the guidelines, LIG flat owners cannot sell or transfer ownership of their flats before completing five years from the date of allotment. However, they are permitted to lease the property to tenants after this period, subject to approval from the Housing Board. Authorities emphasised that these measures are intended to maintain fairness in allocation and protect the interests of eligible low-income families.
The THB has urged all allottees to comply with the new rules and warned that violations could lead to cancellation of allotment or other legal action. The move reflects the government’s efforts to regulate affordable housing effectively.
