Telangana is preparing to complete the process for conducting Gram Panchayat elections. The government sought a detailed report on reservations, and the dedicated commission is set to submit it today. The cabinet earlier decided to conduct elections quickly and follow the 50% reservation limit. Based on this direction, the commission calculated reservations for sarpanches and ward members.
The report will be handed over to the government by Commission Chairman Susani Venkateshwar Rao. After receiving approval, the government will send the details to all districts. The reserved seats for wards and sarpanches will be finalised according to the figures recommended by the commission.
A gazette notification on confirmed reservations will then be forwarded to the State Election Commission. The Panchayat Raj Department will submit a readiness letter to begin the election process. Once completed, the Election Commission is expected to release the official schedule. Meanwhile, the High Court will hear the case related to local body elections on the 24th of this month.
The government is likely to file an affidavit in court either today or tomorrow. It will state that reservations will be finalised within three weeks and handed over to the Election Commission. The affidavit will also confirm that the government is fully prepared to conduct the elections as per the court’s directions.
