Telangana to Protest on Dec 27-28 Against Replacing MGNREGA, Says Minister Seethakka
Telangana Minister Seethakka announced that protests will be held on December 27 and 28 against the plan to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with the Village-Based Guarantee (VB-G) scheme. She said that if MGNREGA is removed, rural workers will lose their guaranteed jobs and many may have to move to cities to work for low wages in private companies.
The Minister criticised the VB-G scheme, saying it favours businesses over the welfare of village workers. She stressed that MGNREGA has provided secure work and income to rural families for years and should be protected.
Seethakka urged farmers, workers, and local communities to join the protests to safeguard rural employment. She said the movement is important to ensure people in villages continue to get work and a fair livelihood, and to stop policies that could harm them economically.
